Do you keep getting your band adjusted foreve

Do you keep getting your band adjusted forever, or do you reach a "sweet spot" after a few fills and just keep it that way?

Jody, I am noticing you are posting loads of good questions.

First, :welcomeB: take some time, look around here, you will find loads of info here already, right at your fingertips. If you are like me you want to know answers right NOW. I'm sure you'll get good responses to your threads, but know these are all questions that have been asked many times over and if you don't want to wait to hear from others, the search function works very well here, you can search by keword per post, or keywords in titles only.

From what I've read here and on other sites, it depends on the person. Some people maintain without having to go for fills and unfills. Others have a complete unfill and then slowly refill it if they slide back on their weight.

Here's what the Allergan book says on this:

Check-ups with your doctor are a normal and very important part of the LAP-BAND® System follow-up. Many surgeons see their patients weekly or biweekly during the first month and every four to twelve weeks for the first year. Adjustments are performed during some of these visits. It is typical for follow-up visits to be scheduled every three to six months during the second and third year, depending on the individual case.

It is quite common to have to continue to fill your band. One of the reasons is this. If you lose weight you lose fat around the stomach so it gets loser. It is common to continue fills. Sometimes, however you may not need one for say 6 months. Good luck.

OK so based on the theory that you continue to get fills for the rest of you life... Won't you eventually get to a point where your band will hold no more?

You know, I really dont know! I have meant to ask my doc this before and forgotten to do so, I just had another fill despite being at a healthy weight, motivated by the fact that I'd like to be even lighter, but surely you cant keep filling forever.

Yet you dont hear horror stories of the band failing to work after max restriction has been obtained, over time, so it must continue. But I guess there's a point at which you have to work with it, not continue to rely on it and hopefully those skills have been learned during your journey.

my guess it that you will continue to get tweeker fills when you need it, because 1 the fluid may back up into the tubing allowing for more than 4cc's of fluid. 2 the fat around your stomach will continue to disappear making the band loser. and 3 in the even that you "lose" some of your fill you would need replacement.

time will tell as everyone has their own journey and experiences.
