I am a vey slow loser... I can eat just about anything and admit I don't always make the best food decisions, however I AM LOSING!!! I keep telling myself that I am very lucky to have my TOOL and that I didn't get this fat overnight.. The excercise thing is very very hard for me as I have OA in both knees and my job keeps me sitting at the computer all day. But I have made it a goal to become more active. Hang in there everyone!!! We did make the choice to do something about our weight...

City: Harrisburg State: PA | 51 and I am getting healthy I was banded Nov 19,2007. I went for my first fill and I had lost 28 lbs. Doc said "let's wait and see if we can get the reflux under control before we fill. Wt loss has slowed down, but I don't sleep well because of the reflux. I can eat most meat, all fish, and most veggies.

My next appt is for my third fill! The first one they told me it just "primes" the band and not to expect anything to happen/change and it didn't. Second fill, I was hopeful, but I can eat a lean cuisine and a yogurt and still be looking for more! Definitely, no restriction.
I do have to eat more slowly of course and for those getting stuck, I've found that the first several bites are the most important to go slowly with and then everything else goes down a little easier. I know all things we get used to change at each fill and we have to re-adjust again.
I was walking three miles a day about 4to 5 times weekly before the surgery, had the surgery and then it got cold here In the NE and I stopped.
It should be mild tomorrow, so I do plan to walk. I'm pretty good ONCE i get into a routine, but in this weather, it's hard to predict the frequency I can get out. drosati1:
Nice weight loss in a short time. Does that include a pre-op diet? I didn't have to do that and then I was grateful, but now I realize it would have been a nice head start. Oh well, can't look back, right.
Our new over 50 thread has already taken off nicely!

I do the catsup thing, too, or with pork... a little applesauce, a little cranberry sauce with chicken/turkey, if I have some around. It helps a lot. Hard to get DH to understand that. To him, I'm just adding calories, but.. I'm using a very small amount, and sugar free whenver possible. Someone told me that Clark's (nutrition store) sells sugar free catsup. Haven't made it over there to check it out yet. |

I'm thinking that the enzyme relaxes your stoma momentarily so the food can go down the relaxed opening.... This is just my thoughts and not scientific studies.... :biggrin1: NMSunshine..... I would like a trainer for the weights - to make sure I am doing it right - but I watch the ones at my gym and it seem like all they do is talk - they do work you out but then they are sitting there talking a long time between sets - I want to exercise and come home - I don't want to spend 2 hrs there. Maybe i will eventually get the courage to go talk to the to see how much it cost. But I can't do lunges - it hurts my knees... I hate to tell you this but exercise isn't to help the skin issue - our skin is our skin and if it has been streached out for a while - it's most likely not going to bounce back - it's really is an individual thing - it's all about if you have good elastic genes or not. I was looking at my legs in the dressing room on Saturday - OMG from my thighs to knees my legs look like they belong to an 80 old woman... I'm only 52 but they are gross along with my bat wing - dog ear boobs - thank God for Clothes... Pineapple juice is used as a meat tenderize - it has an emzine in it to break down the meat . I never have stayed stuck that long to use it - but i have some too (use it to marinate tri-tip)- Hope to remember this if I do get stuck on ck or beef... xoxo Janet Quote:

We did make the choice to do something about our weight... | Dawgfan - It's really all about your food choices - I thought I would be a slow loser due to my age - especially when I 1st joing the 50 + gang - I make healhty food choices 98% of the time and am lucky that I have no phyical limitations that prevent me from exercising I have been very lucky as my results have come alot faster than I expected.- so I guess I didn't screw up my system in the past yrs from all the yo-yo diets and diet pills. The do have exercises that you can do with the bands if you are unable to walk very much... Quote:

If you are having problems with that now a fill would make it worse from what I have read - Just keep off the good food choices and you will make it.. Quote:

Our new over 50 thread has already taken off nicely! | Shortgal - I live in the Desert so it's the summers for us when weather ruins our outside activity - I am very lucky to have a gym right across the street from my tract. So it easier just to go to the gym - i don't have to worry about it being dark - raining etc. We had the other over 50 thread - but newbies couldnt always find it - I like that Alexandrea took the suggestion and now newbie can find us easily.. Not sure what to expect but am looking forward to it. It may take more than one fill to get restriction but this is the first step. They made me an appointment in two weeks for my second fill and then two weeks later for my third. I sure hope I get good restriction by then. Glad to see everyone. Brenda

City: Clarksville State: Indiana | Weight loss has been pretty good for me and i am 54. I did not do a pre-op diet, but have lost 50 pounds. I exercise a lot though. But i also eat a lot more calories than most people seem to eat. 1600-1700 a day. Right now i am stuck though, i need a fill. Donna |

I like papaya enzymes better than pineapple juice. I carry them in a little medicine bottle in my purse. It's easier than dragging a little can of pineapple juice to a restaurant.
I have to take itty bitty bites too. I cut my meat as tiny as possible and chew it until there is nothing left to chew. Then I don't need the papaya tablets.

State: Wisconsin | Drosati, what are you doing to control the reflux? I had/have the same problem after my fill, but taking a Pepsid before going to bed every night makes a lot of difference for me. Hope you can get a handle on it b/c it is miserable!
