Did anyone else have to have an endoscopy prior to surgery? I'm so glad I did. It delayed surgery for 3 mos but I found out I had two ulcers, one was bleeding. I had no pain and no symptoms. I also had to go to a lung specialist for a complete pulmonary exam. I was a smoker for years and years. Gave it up 15 years ago but always worry that it may have hurt my lungs. I was so happy to hear that I am still a big blowhard.

Well, as I stated before - don't have any plans for today - my son & his family have moved away so it's just me & GS who 17 and doesn't have time for his grandma , plus after my vegas weekend last weekend I am looking forward to a little R&R - but so far I have been up since 6:30 coffee then to the gym 3.5 miles - incline varied but got up to 10 without holding on (per my trainer & I have read this before holding on you don't burn as many calories as your legs are not carrying your full weight - and yes it does make a diff) Home in the pool for a few laps to cool off and then found out I had a great NSV - I no longer float last yr at this time I was bobbing in the pool like a beached whale - and this summer I sink Loving it.. Funny how something so stupid as that can really make your day...
Been to the store for weekly shopping - home put all stuff up and now let's see it's 2:15 I am sitting down - so much for my R&R
Well think I will go watch a movie or read - will CBL
Remember - good food choices - and 3 bite rule | Hope you had a good 4th!! So where do all the folks go that posted here? Do they leave once they reach goal? or once you have the hang of the new lifestyle do they tend not to post much. Personally I love the input and perspectives of 'the oldies'. thanks for sticking around!

Happy One Month Aniversary! You really have lost alot of weight in one month. How many calories are you taking in a day and how much exercise? My band date is July 16th and this liquid diet is tough.

My band date is July 16th and this liquid diet is tough. | I was lucky and didn't have to do a preop diet. Just the 7 days of liquids post op, then 2 weeks mushies, then solids. I've been on solids a little over a week and am averaging 700-800 calories a day. And I rarely feel hunger. I am lucky in that I think I have pretty good restriction in this phase. Yesterday I had 1000 calories due to some nibblies at a BBQ and I am up a pound (refuse to change ticker) but a lot of that was salty/processed stuff. Dang chips sitting on the counter all day. I had to go outside to remove myself from them. That is my red light danger food! Now if someone could explain this weird thought process in my head: I was anxious to see everyone at the BBQ yesterday, couldn't wait to see if anyone noticed my weight loss. One person asked if I was still losing who knew about my surgery and no one else. I was so disappointed, I had my new skinnier clothes on and everything. Okay now the weird part, when someone notices I don't want them too as I don't want to draw attention to it and feel under the magnifying glass. How dumb is this, i want them to notice but I don't????

I wonder if people who KNOW we had surgery will be less likely to comment, since they think we want to keep it quiet? I'm sure everyone noticed how nice you looked and were thinking, "What's different abou her?" Most people are worried about what everyone is thinking about them, so don't notice others unless it is a HUGE difference.

I think I have read the Parker guy Stone somebody yep I liked him - I will find an author I really like and the go read all his older books before I discovered him or her.. Quote:

Personally I love the input and perspectives of 'the oldies'. thanks for sticking around! | Long this is a very personal opinion and I have no statics that it's true but seems to me the ones who quit posting usually don't follow thru with their new lifestyle change. They have fallen off the wagon per se and aren't doing as good as the rest of the gang and give up - are in denial or don't want to hear what we have to say - I could be full of crapolla but when someone from my monthly group has dropped out and then come back - they say they haven't been doing real well - they lose like 40 or so lbs and then slack off - again this is totally a personal opinion and 40 lbs is good - it's just that I didn't do this to not get all my weight off. The statistic's are that you will only lose like 50% to 60% of your excess body weight by yr 2 - IMHO we should strive for at least 80 if not 100% of our excess weight - but that's just my personal opinion - I know that when I got to 200 (50% of my excess weight loss) I felt alot better and though I looked really good too - but I just kept plugging along and got the rest of it off. For me it really hasn't been that hard - I am almost 1 yr out - in-fact went for my pre-op on 7/6. Or it could be that pple have lives and are doing other things rather than posting 24/7.. I post cuz I have no life I post cuz I have made friends here I post cuz it help me be accountable I post cuz I want everyone to feel as great as I do and if I can do it anyone can :biggrin2: So much of our lives have been wasted being fat - our fatness limited us in what we could do - at our age we need to have a good quality of life - we don't need the limitations that being obese cause - we want to add a few more years on this earth - We want to enjoy our "golden yrs".. Again this is all my personal opinion - and I am a person with strong personal opinion that not everyone agrees with

How dumb is this, i want them to notice but I don't???? | Long that pound is just water don't worry. Ok pple noticing - you are not weird - some dont' know what to say as they don't want to offend - and I forget what you tickers says was your starting weight - but remember 37 lbs gone - and sometime it does show but to some pple fat is fat and they don't complement on almost 40 lbs cuz we are still chunky and they don't really see it - and some pple love us just for who we are/were and they don't see the weight at all - they see you... I had a few pple tell me I wasn't fat and didn't need the surgery - 250 @ 5'4 isn't fat ya right - but they saw me for who I am and didn't see the fat when they looked at me.
But I know what you mean - I saw a guy I know yesterday at the store and he hasn't seen me since Feb and I have lost a good 25 lbs since then and he didn't say anything... Some will some won't but just go look in the mirror and admire those 37 lbs that are gone - the completments will come so don't let the lack of them hold you back..

Indio, I think your comments about why people stay away are right on. I have put this web page into my daily routine because I want to stay focused, and find the discussions that occur help me through this huge life change. The bariatric programs have support groups, but I don't have the time to go to them in another city, and, I like the 24/7 availabaility of this site - so it's my support group! :-) Thanks everybody!! :-)
And you're also right about goals- I have NO DESIRE to reach only the 'average' weight loss. I'm going for the whole deal. Unless I have PS to get rid of the flaps of skin I'm sure to have towards the end, I'm not sure I will ever be on the low end of the weight chart, but I want so badly to be in the NORMAL weight range. I want to reach 140 pounds - I'm 5'6" and pretty large boned (I wear 11 1/2 shoes!), so I think that will be a great weight goal for me. But to do that, I need to stay focused on this to the end. I can never remember being under 155 pounds (maybe when I was 10?), and that was only for a year when I was 21. Maybe I won't get quite there - we'll see. Even so it will be a whole new experience for me -- and I can't wait!!
I also noticed lately more people are commenting on my weight loss...nobody really noticed the first 40 or 50 or so, but now it's becomeing obvious. I get embarassed though when they make a big deal...so I just minimize it by saying Thanks, and I have a long way to go yet, and try to change the subject because I'm not telling everybody about my band (that's usually the next question - how are you doing it). Inside though, it does make me feel good when they say I'm looking good or that they barely recognized me! "-)

City: Newark State: Delaware | accountability I, myself, have found that this thread with all the input form everyone has been a blessing. WE all need to be accountable for our actions and I find discussing or reveiling our issues is a benefit. Everyone is so helpful when we struggle and so encouraging and reassuring when it is needed.
Thanks so much to all and U hope to be here a long time for support, to give support and just keep in touch. I have a ways to go to get to goal so I will be here ..

I hope I don't regret telling everyone that I am getting the band in Aug. I was so excited I told everyone. What I am worried about the most is the girls in my office, I'm afraid the real young ones will be stuffing their mouth in my face going oh pj this is soooo good. I think at first I will eat my lunch in my car. You know how some can be.
