I eat LOTS of salad (my dr. calls lettuce "crunchy water"). I have to be careful what I put on them (esp. dressing) but they are great when I go out with friends. I've never pb'd while eating a salad!

Hope things get better. | I have had different experiences with pbing and throwing up. I have had food get stuck and it pops out and that's the end of it. These throwing up experiences are completely different. I slime and throw up more slime, without any food coming up. This goes on for a couple of hours until finally whatever is stuck comes up. I have found the best thing when this happens is not to drink anything for a couple of hours and let everything rest. That was my mistake the other day. I tried to drink too soon.
I worry so much when this happens because I know it's not at all good for the band.
Tonight, I got stuck again. I was at a friend's house who invited me to dinner. She doesn't know about the band. I just stayed stuck and
kept playing cards. I chewed papaya tablets over and over again, and finally got unstuck. This is the very first time I have ever gotten stuck and not thrown up ( or PBed)

I forgot to say that the one thing I can be guaranteed to eat without any problems is salad. I have never had one bit of trouble with salad. Salad with whatever I want to put in it. I almost always order salad if I am out with friends who don't know about the band.

I'm nervous about eating salads (still on clear liquids)--do the cucumbers cause gas? I have such bad gas now --keep burping--and the lettuce doesn't get stuck? I am SOOOO hungry Carol

Our instructions were no salad for 3 months . . . so I haven't tried it yet . . . I just had my first small fill (1.5 in a 10cc band) . . . and go stuck on a cheese omelete today . . . ugh . . .

You can bet I will be more careful about the size of my bites. I got careless
since everything has been going so well for awhile now. Bad move! | Denise - I am glad you are better and I can relate to getting careless - but I have never gotten stuck like you.. When I get stuck its just for a few minutes - Quote:

great feeling that was. I am <-----> this close to being able to shop in the regular sizes departments. To the rest of you....keep up the good work and just know there are people .. | Notmzperfect - Congrats on your lost and to weighing less that you have in 24 yrs - that is just such a figgin great acomplishment... Thanks for the props - I'm just one fat chick talking to other fat chicks talking to them like I would want them talking to me if I fell off the band wagon - and I have always been knownr as the person who tell's it like I see it - my friends are always saying "tell us how you really feel Janet" Sometime it gets me it hot water at work - but so be it - Quote:

If I eat salad, my band and stomach will hurt for DAYS. I can have 4-5 bites and that is it. I love salads too. Also, I am guaranteed to get stuck if I eat rice. Funny how we are all different with the same foods.

I have been off of diet coke for about six weeks and can't believe I did it! I was so hooked! I had a bit of a headache for a couple of days, but drinking lots of water helped. I hope to be banded at the end of February. I can't wait for this new "tool" to help me loose weight and keep it off. I'm 53. This is a great thread.

I am to be banded about the same time as you and I can't wait. Keep me posted as to how you do. I am excited to be going through this process, but would like to skip some of the steps and get going! Good luck.

| For some losing slowly maybe the fact that you have a very slow metabolism like Denise (but heck she's about 10 lbs from goal - so she is doing great) or for others it can be what your are eating - you may be eating too many calories or not enough - also what about exercise. I find that keeping a food diary helps me account for what I put in my mouth - I track calories & protein grms only - you know we discount that bite of cheese and a little later those 2 crackers and then later maybe a couple hearshy kisses. All those bites here and there do add up. Exercise - is a big key in losing & maintaining your weight once you get to goal - If you exercise it's like $$$ in the bank - you gotta eat less or burn up 3500 calories to lose a pound - so if you eat less and burn more the weight will come off. This is not a race - I know that we all want the pounds gone now - not tomorrow or in 3 month but this very second - we feel this way cuz we are eating so much less than we did before and feel that this decrease in food in take should make the pounds magically disappear right now.. But the hard fact is that it's not going to happen like that for most of us older one. We have to work this one day at a time - this is a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating not a diet - cuz if this was a diet - the minute we go off of it - we will gain our weight back even with the band - We have to take the word diet out of our vocabulary - We need to replace it with healthy eating - low fat - low sugar... For today - good food choices - exercise..

When do you get to move onto soft proteins or mushies? Everyone has such different plans. But hang in there!

Still researching. I have been trying to force myself to eat slower and chew better in preparation for the future. Its much harder then I expected it would be. I am not a fan of PB or any other such thing so it will be good reinforcement for me once I am banded. Thanks to all the good advice and info I am getting here.
