Ok, so the original question was "how is weight loss for people over 50?'
Right now for me the answer is "turtle like, slow". I'm at a stand still (yeah, I know that's better than gaining) have no restrcition and 10 days away from Dr's appt, where I will be begging for a fill.

I have been living off willpower for most of the time after surgery and well now "mr. will power" is tired of supporting me. Unless I keep my calories intake closer to 800, i don't lose. For a while "Mr. Will" was keeping me close or under 1000, but lately is climbing and now I'm closer to 1100 and 1200 is knocking on my door. AND I joined the November Nymphs Valentine's day challenge to lose!

Ok, prayer chain, please... that I can keep my calories under 1200 daily until my next appt adn that I get a fill at next appt AND (ok sorry to be greedy with the prayer thing but one more) that I get SOME restriction with the next fill.

I have been such a good girl and really need this one!

I think this is great! :clap2:

Now we can start separate threads for different issues and still pertain to the "50" crowd. I know I am only 49, but I lose like I am 59 :paranoid

Ok Shortgal... Prayers said :p - You may feel restriction on your 1st fill - I did - it didn't last too long (about 2 weeks) but I just called the doc and moved up my next appointment - that was on 10/24 and I made it through the holidays without gaining and able to lose 3.5 between 12/15 & 1/2 - I still have restriction - could use a small fill - but am able to be get full on 1 1/2 cups of food... Are you able to exercise yet?? I have found that is the key to my weight loss - I eat about 1000 - 1200 calories a day and ususally walk 3 mile minimum 4 days a week but try for 5... Mr. Willpower (love it) but since you put the MR in front - well theres's your answer in leaving you.... Couldn't pass that one up - you know men :p

We are in the same age bracket - heck it's just a number anyway ;)

It's just that we have diff issues than the 20 & 30 yr olds - hopefully we have learned from those years - we are all expert dieters.. They haven't been at this weight loss thing as long as us :)

Hi all. Nice to have this special place for us. Just tried to eat some turkey for lunch and up it came, after just a few well chewed bites. I can eat stuff like yogurt and soup with never a problem. But so often food like meat and veggies cause me to PB and upchuck. It will start just after a few bites and I chew them up a lot. This is happening once a day, sometimes twice. Any one have this???? PB too much

Welcome Di :welcome:
This is a great place for info, support etc.
All those emotions are normal ... We are/did take drastic measures to get ahold of our weight problems - for us it's mostly about healthy - but i am vain enought to say I want to look better - you know the new saying 50 is the new 30's...
The one thing i do want to caution you about is that this is only a tool the majority of work will be up to you by making healhty food choices and exercise. When I first joined that is what the experienced banders kept drilling into me - it's a tool - not the magic cure to your issues with food.

Well gotta get back to work - Just wanted to welcome you - I will ck back Later.

NMsunshine - you may just be a tad too tight - even at my tightes I could eat meat and veggies - how are your bites - are they small - I still find myself taking a big bite of something as soft as my fish and will get stuck especially if I eat too fast - I don't think it's good to pb every day.. I don't think it's good for the band and your tummy that sitched around it... When do you go back to the doc??? My doc want us to eat regular food - not to live on shakes and soups...

I must be taking too big a bite at first or eating too fast. Twice now I have eaten with company where the idea of PBing freaked me. I ate the tinest bites, tiny amount and VERY slow. One dinner was a ham dinner the other one Turkey. I didn't PB at either of those two.
Another thing is that I make dinner for my boyfriend and I then eat with him. So often I will eat when I am not really hungry. Have a feeling the 'not really hungry' thing has a lot to do with my problem.

Hi All.... I have been following the other 50's thread but didn't post... Thanks IndioGirl for letting us know about this thread, I am looking forward to your continued encouragement and support you provide for us all... You are an inspriation to us....

I am going in on the 11th for my second fill and am hoping to get some restriction... I got my first fill the end of November and after about a week or so it feels like I haven't had any restriction and I have been able to pretty much eat anything I wanted to with out any problems...

On two occaisions I had food get stuck, but I took a couple of sips of room temperature pineapple juice and after about a minute, plop the food went through... I swear that pineapple juice is magic potion when it comes to food getting stuck..... I bought a six pack of 6 oz cans of Dole Pineapple Juice and keep it on hand... I wouldn't be without it... If I had a purse big enough I would carry a can in it to have when I go out to eat... :hungry:

The scale has not moved in about a month and I admit I have made some bad food choices during the holidays so I'm hoping the fill will help get the scale moving again.... The RV park that we are staying in has a work out room yet I only manage to get there once a week, which is not enough and I need to get my rear in gear and git r done more often..... :biggrin1:

Hopefully this thread will take off as well as the other one did....

NM Sunshine - see you knew the reason all along.... That's the only time it happens to me.. But when you are hungry it is habit to shovel in the food and that's the hardest one to break for me an chewing sometimes too...

NicNatNut..good to hear from you again. I didn't feel real restriction until my 2ed fill. Now it looks like it will be sometime before I will need another fill.

Indio shoveling food in...boy, do I know that one.! I may have caused my stomach to swell because I just tried some yogurt and have that feeling to stop immediately.... it's been 5 hours since I last ate (it was turkey and I PBed that with the first bite). Guess it is time to go on warm liquids for a while.

Thanks Nicnaknut....
I am just a fat chick talking stuff other fat chicks know about - I have always kept up on and read about obesity - I just never followed the programs for any lenght of time - I know all the excuses - yadda yadda yadda.. I'm just a person who tells it like it is...
I find for me - excercise is the KEY to my weight loss ... So yes if you are able to exercise - get it in gear - and Just Do It... :eyebrows:

Indio - I'm with you. Exercise is key. I work out 5 days a week for 45 minutes of EFX cardio and two half hours with a trainer. I am hoping to minimize the amount of skin surgery I will have to do after, plus I finally am feeling fabulous from the endorphins. About fills, don't worry NM I did the same thing. Sometimes food is no problem, but I find I can't eat and talk, unless I am very consciously eating and chewing. I also find it easier at night than the morning. I have to cut up veggies into small bites, same with meat, I also have to "wet" my meat whether it is ketchup or gravy but I need sauce for it to go smoothly down. Niknacnut- I hadn't heard about pineapple juice, but it makes sense. It is sweet and slimy and would help things slide down. I also am really careful when I eat out. I try never to go out too hungry, because I gulp.

Hugs all, I will start using this site.

Michelle
