Smile What to do with all that skin

Check with your plastic surgeon about being a skin donor. The skin is one of the most important organs of the body and skin is badly needed all the time for grafts. I saw this suggestion smewhere on the web while I was researching weight loss surgery, though I can't find it again, of course. However, it's worth asking about. Possible answers are yes, no, and maybe.

I also heard at one time that burned patients need our skin but they found that streched out skin does no good for patients. It makes sense to me.

The skin can be used for many purposes, regardless of it's stretched out condition. Check Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation and see if your PS participates.

Dr.J maybe you can answer this question for me. My friend has lost a ton of weight, on her own God Bless her, and her sister said that she heard from one of the horses mouths that a burn foundation here in GA would do her PS surgery for free so that they could use the skin for grafting. I have tried to research this online but to no avail. Is this heard of? Can they really use it, and if so would they do it for FREE?

Hi. As I'd mentioned in another post, it is illegal to sell human body parts or trade them for anything of value...like free surgery.

There is a foundation that offer information about this: Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation.
