Is anyone else starting to lose their hair?

I knew it would happen eventually, but this is starting to get scary. It happened after having all of my kids but this is a bit more. I don't want to cut my hair short :(

I don't know. The rest of you is getting smaller, maybe a new haircut would really showcase your weightloss. :-)

Are you drinking protein shakes or getting extra protein? That's supposed to take care of the hair loss thing. Mine has thinned out a bit cause it's getting hot here but I haven't seen anything that I would attribute to my band.

I've been losing a lot of hair lately too. I have really thick hair so I'm okay, but I hope it doesn't get too bad. I get plenty of protein everyday, so I hope maybe it isn't band related.

Not yet, but I'm totally freaked about it. My hair is already SUPER thin. I really can't afford to lose a single strand. Yikes.

I have not lost any, but my friend's mom, who is banded, lost so much hair that she had to wear a hair piece. I think it is just due to the lack of protien. Have you tried Unjury? They have a website, unjury.com, and they have supplements. They are not bad either, as far as protien goes. Regardless, I would definately call your doctor.

Ladies, I am not a Feb '08 bandster, but I had to chime in as someone who has been there.

Hairloss happens, it just does. It is not a lack of protein or a lack of B vitamins or a lack of biotin or a lack of calcium or a lack of... or the anesthesia or any of a myriad of other things. If it it going to happen to you, it will happen to you. You can certainly not go wrong by keeping up your supplements and your protein intake, but there's not a lot you can do but wait it out...

There are literally SCORES of threads on this site about hair loss. I think the only thing that has been determined for certain is weight loss and anesthesia and a shock to the body (surgery) can contribute to it. Most here have said theirs started at about 3 to 4 months out and stopped at between 7 and 11 months out, or when they stopped losing weight or both. Some here have not lost any hair (lucky people!).

I wish you all luck, it does get better. Mine stopped falling out when I hit my major plateau in September. I'm losing again, so I expect it to start falling again in a couple of months...EEGADS! I'll have none left! Mine's to my waist and I will be DEVASTATED when I have to cut it, but I'd rather have less gorgeous hair and be thinner than the other way around. Or at least that's what I tell myself.

I've noticed that I've been losing my hair too. I have thick hair so it is not noticable, but I am concerned. I've been trying to up my protein, be vigiliant about vitamins, etc. I'm just hoping it goes away soon!

This actually jives with what my surgeon told me during my last fill. He said that hair grows in 3 month cycles, so being 3 months out from surgery, our hair will start falling out. He seems to think that it will happen for about 3 months and then we'll see it stop.

I'm noticing a little more hair in my hands when I shampoo, but not anything I'm alarmed about. I lost a lot of hair after my baby was born in Feb of 2007, but it only affected me in that it was annoying. I couldn't tell a difference on my head. I have thick, curly hair.

I have also noticed a significant amount of hair loss and it is scary because i already have thin hair. When i went to my followup last week i asked them about it and asked if there was anything else i could do or take to help with it. My doctor and nutritionist both told me to start taking Biotin. I just started on it though so i can not tell you if it is working or not. I'll keep you updated though.

I've started to thin out myself, but I didn't think it was band related since I get plenty of protein. My hair dresser recommended using a shampoo/conditioner called Nioxin- and it has worked for me so far! So, if it's not band related... you could always look into non protein solutions.

I cut my hair as well. I used to pull my hair back into a pony tail and the front part of my head has really thinned. So I cut it so I have bangs now so I can't pull that back, and it helps to regrow those hairs since they are no longer breaking due to the pony tail.

No, it is the reverse for me...I swear I have more hair growing faster! And my nails are turning into talons - I am cutting/filing them daily!

Protein overload perhaps....

I'm right there with you! I'm loosing my hair way too fast!! One of my girlfriends as work told me about BIOTIN as well and I just went out today and bought some. I will keep records because I can see my scalp through my already thin hair. I don't go back to the doc till May 15, and I will ask him about it and see what he has to say. I may end up cutting my shoulder length hair as well??!!

I talked to my doctor about the hair loss yesterday. He said that he would guess it is unrelated because a) there are no malabsorption issues like with gastric bypass, b) I get plenty of protein, c) I take my vitamins everyday, and d) I drink plenty of water. He suggested a supplement (Hair and Nails at GNC) but said it might just be a normal cycle. I have very thick curly hair so it isn't noticeable yet. After I had my daughter in 2003, I lost tons of hair and had noticeable thinness...I don't want that to happen again.
