OK.... I was an avid Diet Coke drinker.... 6-8 a day at my peak of 345 (ironic huh!). Now I am post op 4 months, and down from 283 when i started pre op... now I am 241. I drink diet Snapple, Coffee and water with no issue. Every oncce and awhile I want someting in a can... I have found something that works great
Diet Mountain Dew
it already has little carbonation.... goes flat in about 10 mins of being opened and even when flat, tastes pretty decent.
Now, I am not drinking 10 a day... more like 1 or 2 aq week, but it is nice to have a soda once and awhile.
Just wanted to share... good luck to all!

high volume diet soda drinker - diet pepsi favorite
second day of 10 day pre-op now - op is 3/31/09
Arizona diet green tea seems good - zero everything except 10 grams sodium per 8 oz. Available in cans, bottles, and gallon jugs.
I love Crystal Light peach tea but my wife thinks aspartame is responsible for all illnesses, physical and mental, known to man.
Will probably use Arizona post-op.

Just wanted to share... good luck to all! | saw "soda...maybe a solution for some" and thought I'd pop in, eventhough this is the mens room....I'm searching for a solution myself.
I go thru a 2 liter a day or almost...I just can't stop- especially now it's getting warmer outside. I'm sure it's mental but if I wasn't drinking the sodapop I'd drop weight really fast.
Okay, I'll leave the mens room now and try your suggestion. Diet Dew.

I lost my interest in soda of any kind nearly 20 years ago.
I had as strong a habit as any, yet it always was ironic the very people that seemed to need to reduce weight the most *including ME* never went anywhere without multiple daily doses....large plastic 'sporterized' jugs and a nipple to suckle from are but a more recent adaptation of marketing and salesmanship.
One event that helped change my intake of "Diet Rite": working an intense office job under lots of paperwork stress, we drones would cluster around the various machines at the magic "10 o'clock" witching hour, and lapse into a frenzy with that days' snack-treat madness in hand.
My habit was to read and chug down about the first 1/2 of my Diet Rite without pause or looking up. This one incident tasted downright skanky....and I choked on it, gagged and spit up something semi-solid....the remains in the bottle resembled part of a 3-muskateers bar. Up till that point, that had been one of my favorites.
The horrid after-taste and the unknown mechanics of 'HOW' did that happen, along with the obvious 'are you INSANE' wolfing down a mega-jillion pointless calories washed down with a totally bogus liquid consumable, began my journey to taking better care of myself.
How such a non-food non-drink non-nutritious product could intrude into the daily routine of so many remains a mystery. Frankly, I suspect the aspartame/aspartic acid of my 'Diet Pepsi Decade' did have an effect on my own metabolism, as well as dietary habits.
I threw them all out when I gave up alcohol and started insulin injections so long ago.
I did come to favor a carbonated lemon flavored water "La Croix"....mixed about 70% water with a few oz. of unsweetened Cranberry juice. I pour La Croix into a little juice, from about 18" high over a favorite kiln-fired clay mug and let it stand for a while.
I couldn't face La Croix at all for about 3 years postOp, but now find one or 2 a week to be pure joy.
One chemist was trying to convince me there was some kind of reaction that reduced the C0^2 bonds....I don't know that I buy his hypothesis, but I do know that stoneware mugs work and typical coffee cups don't.
The carbonation is effectively neutralized, and the acidic flavor of the water/juice combo is wonderful and refreshing.
