please help me with LAP-BAND^® info

Im interested in getting the LAP-BAND^® surgery done because I am morbidly obese. I was wondering if anyone got a good deal on getting it done. Ive done some research and found out that it can be really expensive. Kaiser wont pay for it and my credit is to bad to finance it so I want to pay cash and get it done on my own. I can either get it here or mexico. I was wondering if anyone had any experience over in mexico with this procedure. Is it possible to get this procedure done for around $5000? If anyone can steer me in the right direction as far as price and a doctor. Thanks in advance.

Even the worst butchers in Mexico charge more than $5000. That's because the band companies charge them around 3,000 just for the band.

Decent LAP-BAND^® doctors start at around 7000-8000 and go up from there. I don't know too many US docs who do it for that price though. But they do it for slightly more than that.

Since you are right there in San Diego, I would have to recommend Dr Ortiz in Tijuana. Easy access for you, and tons of experience. He charges around $8000. You might be able to negotiate a lower price as you live near the border, since his price includes three nights at a Tijuana hotel that you probably wouldn't have to use.

I would be extremely careful about looking for "a deal" when you are talking about hiring someone to cut into your stomach. It's not going to be a deal if you end up in the emergency room and have to pay unknown amounts to get your band removed, pay for antibiotics for infections, and ruin your general health.

The horrible doctors of MX that give you crappy bands while claiming they are Inamed bands would probably do it but you won't keep your band for long.

The safe doctors that actually DO use a quality band are $7K. Dr. Aceves is one.
