I've never heard of non-adjustable banding. The purpose of the band is to get fills put in it to decrease the size of the pouch. Usually when the LAP-BAND® is put on it isn't filled until a few weeks later (depends on the doctors). Where did you hear about a band that didn't have to be adjusted? I've heard of people that didn't require fills, but never a band that wasn't adjustable. I don't think there is any such animal yet designed....what was your source.
I'm sorry I don't know this doctor but perhaps someone else on here knows something about him. I'm on the other side of the country.
Best wishes and place let me know where you heard about this band?

I know there is a thread on here somewhere that deals with a mechanical adjusting band. Done somewhere in Europe.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a non-adjustable band that is used in the Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (if that's the right terminology). It's a form of Bypass that also uses a band. ???

the non-adjustable bands had all kinds of problems - which is why the ADJUSTIBLE bands were designed and are such an improvement - less problems, many more successes, much more safety. The non-adjustable bands are rarely used anymore, to my knowledge. Renee

Yeah, personally I don't think I would do the non-adjustable band. The reasons we need fills is because we lose fat around our stomachs and the band gets loose.

:biggrin1: Yes! I have two co-workers that have had a "gore-tex" band procudure done about 8 yrs ago. They had it done in Houston, Tx by a Dr. Molina. They were both very successful at losing lots of weight and keeping it off.

My great aunt had it done about 4 years ago and she eats like a person who had RNY, she's lost over 150 lbs. No problems that I'm aware of.
