City: Orlando State: Florida | New band at Dr. Ortiz Tijuana
:nervous (Written at clinic on July 13th):update: Well here I am! Just got banded today and am taking advantage of the two computers they have here for patients use. What a beautiful clinic! Ever since I was picked up at the hotel (which is awesome by the way), it's been an outstanding experience. VERY professional, immaculate, the entire staff is terrific. The surgery was quick, about 24 minutes. The incisions are small and will heal very nicely. They use surgical glue as opposed to sutures and it is so much nicer.I've had a few uncomfortable moments, kinda like drinking something cold too fast, one woke me right up. I grab my IV pole and start walking. It really works. There are 4 other patients here right now and I've met a great couple from Florida. Both nurses. The husband got the surgery and the wife is going to be trained tomorrow for fills. If anyone is interested in a housecall, please let me know and I will get the info to you. I'll check back in a few to see if anyone has seen this, it will make the night here go quicker. Or there always is the flat screen TV in my room...Eve

Hi Eve. Congrats on your surgery. I would love to hear more details about the experience if you're willing to share. I'm only 2 hours north of Dr. Ortiz but still have some trepidation re. Mexico, particularly Tijuana. I'm meeting with two different surgeons in Los Angeles next month, but I know Dr. Ortiz has more experience than either of them. Thanks.

I had my banding done by Dr. Ortiz 7/12/06. It was wonderful and his mother is such a doll.
The only bad part is the liquid diet after. I am only consuming 300 calories a day and feel like I am starving. This is suppose to go on for a week. Added 1/2 protein shake today to keep my sanity.

City: Orlando State: Florida | Hi Kelli, You may find it usefull to go to Dr. Ortiz's website, just Killerinfo.com his name and Mexico and it give you his site. It shows you the clinic and all the stats. All I can say is that it is a first class operation and I actually had a good time there. I've had multiple hospital experiences in the states and they can't touch this. Congrats to you charliehorse! I'm a bit on empty also but Jello and ice pops rock! Eve

I probably saw you there in the office. I was the one leading the group of walkers around and around.
Was told by Dr.Miranda to add a Metamucil tablet to the diet when hungry. Do not think she knows what real hunger is all about!:hungry: Am going to the store tomorrow and getting the yogurt. Am not a fan of yogurt but right now, that sounds good!:omg:

City: Orlando State: Florida | I was the one wearing the blue sarong thingy. I'm hungry tonight too. I had a V-8 fruity thing, but only had a few sips, not that good. I like yogurt so I'm anxious to eat it.I thought I was supposed to start that on thursday but may grab it a day early if I still feel this way. Dr. Miranda never told me about the Metamucil so I'm going to try it! Eve

I was to the point of getting very weak. I e-mailed Dr. Miranda and she said the thing about the yogurt and metamucil tablet. I had about 1/4 cup of cottage cheese tonight and my energy level came back up. Also, make sure that you do the gatorade. I figure I got my calories up to 410 today as oppose to 240 for the last 3 days. Felt like I was going to pass out on my way to the mailbox and feed my horse.
:help: I will go to the store tomorrow and get some yogurt and whatever else that looks like it will go down easy and be low in calories.

| surgery in Mexico
I would like to know about surgery in Mexico and how do you research the place from the US. I'm not sure about having it done there and how would a person know that on these threads they haven't paid a person to say good things. The internet is very hard to know if it is legitimate.

I had my band done with Dr.Ortiz almost 1 year ago (August 4th to be exact) and I was very pleased with my experience. There have been some drawbacks to having surgery in Mexico (most doctors in my area refuse to see me or take on any after care responsibilities) but I have lost over 100 pounds and would recommend him to anyone. Feel free to PM me if you want more info! : )

They have a web site that you can check out. www.obesitycontrolcenter.com
The only thing that is different about the actual surgery and the web site is the surgery is done in a brand new center and not in the hospital shown.
I felt the same qualms about the surgery in Mexico but have to tell you it is cleaner and they are nicer then most experiences I have had in the States.
This is not a paid advertizement! Believe me, I paid out my own money to have the procedure done!

The new center, is it a hospital or clinic? Are they equipped to handle an emergency if something came up?

Oops! They are equipted to handle anything that comes up. The pre-op is so extensive that you will not have any worries. Where in the USA do they automatically test for HIV and STD's? They have 6 suites for post-op and a nurse and resident there for the evening shift. The surgery is so simple and fast. They also repaired a huge hernia (for free) while they are in there. I asked to be first and got it!
