Banded 08/11/08, could not have gone better . My thanks to Dr. Felix Spiegel. I was not concerned with bedside manner, I went with experience. I do have a question, It is my understanding that my first fill will not happen until the third week after the surgery. WHY the special diet for 1st, 2nd and 3rd week after surgery?

Hey,
This reply is for you Texas Pork.
My name is Paula and I used Dr. Felix Speigel in Houston. I was banded back December 1, 2005. I was very please and had a great experience with the Dr and his whole staff. I started at 226 lbs, and it took me a full 2 years to lose 111 lbs.
I have never been happier.
My husband and i even tried for 6 years to have a baby with no luck until I lost all the weight and got healthy. I am now 19 weeks pregnant and very excited. Hope this info helps. Please email me anytime.
Thanks, Paula Quote:

I was banded on July 31st. with Dr. Spiegel. I have nothing but good things to say about him. I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and so far I've only lost 10 pounds total. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I still feel hungry too much, but I'm trying not to overeat. I go back for my second fill on the 18th. He said that I wouldn't be able to do this with will power only that is why I'm banded. That made me feel better. He told me it might take 2-3 times getting a fill until I don't have the hunger I'm experiencing now. So I'm hopeful. One day at a time is how I take it. At least I'm not inching up the scale.

The special diet post-op is to prevent your stomach from working too hard to digest while the band is getting "seated" -- that is, developing some scartissue to help hold it in place. As that builds up, you gradually reintroduce solids. Go to solids too quickly, and you COULD have slippage.
