I was banded my Dr. Ortiz last month. I too was scared to go to Mexico. I couldn't believe I was going to have a surgery done in a place that I couldn't drink the water. When my DH and I arrived at the clinic, I couldn't believe how clean it was. The nurses were extremely friendly and helpful (even though some didn't speak very good English). We all had our own seperate rooms that were very comfortable and nice. Dr. Ortiz came into my room and introduced himself and explained how everything was going to work and answered any questions that my DH and I had. I told him how nervous I was and he put my mind at ease. Someone else that was getting banded the same day as me, husband is a surgeon. He went into the OR for all of our surgeries (except for his wife's). He did mentioned to us that Dr. Ortiz is only in the OR for about 7-8 minutes, just long enough to put the band in. His assistants do the rest. This I didn't know ahead of time but it still doesn't bother me, but I wanted to put that out there because it may bother others. I feel like I had a good experience. I know others on here talk about how their Dr has better after care, but the experience I had in Mexico is pretty much the same that I have had here in the states as far as after care is concerned. I feel that I made the right decision for me. If asked I would recommend Dr. Ortiz, but do your research and make sure that this is the right decision for you. Not everyone is the same and what may work for me may not work for you. Good luck!!!!
