I start the liquid diet tomorrow

Hello all!

I am sooo excited! I am sooo ready to not be this size anymore. I caught a glimpse of myself as a reflection on the tv screen and I was revolted by what I saw. I am really truly ready. I have lost 12 pounds (My doctor requires a 5% weight loss before surgery which I just met!) and I start the liquid diet tomorrow. Woo-hoo!

Its true what they say, I do feel better with each pound. My knees are a little bit better, I haven't had to use my nitro for chest pain at all which is amazing. I'm totally psyched. I lifted a five pound bag of sugar and it made me understand just how much work my body is doing. I was feeling bad about losing weight but looking the same until I lifted it. Now I get what it is I am doing for myself and why. Five pounds is surprisingly heavy!

I think all of us are amazing for taking this step. It's a hard decision and I am very proud of us. Congratulations to us all for starting this journey back to health, back to ourselves and back to comfortably fitting into seats!

Jessica

P.S. I hope this didn't post 3 times. It won't upload. But I keep clicking

Moved roll-call list to top of thread

Hi gang, I've moved our list of band dates to my post at the top of this thread, so we can always find it easily!
Cheers!

Hey moongoddess, we have banding on the same day!:clap2:

Have you done your pre-op yet and do you have to do the liquid diet 2 weeks before?

Hey macdeb59!

That is so cool! We are band sisters!

I have done my pre-op, I did that a little over a week ago, and I did my psych eval on Tuesday, and my meeting with the nutrition guy yesterday. ~whew!~
I am FINALLY finished with everything and meet with my surgeon next Wednesday, at which time I start my pre-op diet. I had thought that I would have to do a liquid diet, but I found out yesterday that it is more of an Atkins type diet, for the purpose of shrinking my liver.

This weekend will be the real *last supper* for me! I plan on having a BIG Tex-Mex meal at Chuy's (a very yummy restaurant here), and another big one on Wednesday after I meet with the surgeon, and then it's time to count down the final 2 weeks and prepare!

I am SO excited I feel like I could cry tears of joy! I have had many mixed emotions...from "am I crazy to do this?"....to "I need to get everything in order"....to "I am so happy I could burst"...to "Man, I will miss my old friend food"....I am all over the place to say the least! *hee hee*

Hi everyone!

I've updated the surgery list, based all posts to this point. Please let me know if there is any more wierdness with the numbering format of the list, or if I have anyone's dates wrong and I will sort it out. Sorry for any mistakes getting it going - I did it late at night!

Well, I had my final surgeon's consult today, which lasted all of 5 minutes. Suited me, because I didn't have any questions at the time, but as soon as I started driving home, I remembered what I had to ask. DOH! Should have written a list! Oh well, he'll call me back, or else it can wait until surgery day.

Apart from the last minute domestic and work panic:ranger:, I am good to go.

And I can't go soon enough.

I got my date yesterday. It will be the 18th, so now there are three of us that day!

My husband has not been very supportive of this. Honestly on the way home I started to cry. Part relief and part fear I think. Things will be very different for me after the banding. Thankfully I have close friends IRL and you guys for support. Anyone else experience this when they got their dates?

Good morning everyone! I had my lab work and my final consult with Dr. Carter yesterday. Everything is a go for Wed the 4th at the Specialty Surgey Center in Hurst! I can't believe it is this close. I guess that means I get to spend the wknd making sure the house is parent friendly. :-) They will be staying with me the first couple of days. How weird, nearly fifty years old and "Mommy and Daddy" will be taking care of me. Bless their hearts...84 yrs old and they are THRILLED I am doing this. I think they have been worried about my health with all the weight I've gained and the fact that they aren't getting any younger. It is great having the family support. Presurgery wt. 254.4, but I was fully dressed. lol Dr. Carter doesn't have you do the 2 wk prediet but I have been cutting back on my own and am going to start the protein this wknd just because I want to get used to it. Last but CERTAINLY not least...I have not had a cigarette in 9 days!!!! Happy Dance!!! Best of luck to the rest of the October Bandsters and everyone else on this journey. You will all be in my prayers.
He knows who you are... :-)

Hello,
I am actualy a September bandster and today is my week "bandiversary." I can really relate to all the feelings you all are having, because I have been through them all in the last month. I have been on liquids now for three weeks, two weeks pre-op and one post-op. Prior to my liquid diet, I spent two weeks saying goodbye to my favorites that are not band friendly- hot dogs, bread and butter, steak, pizza, among other things. I put myself 11 more pounds away from my goal, which I regret. Once on liquids I did not put a single morsel of food in my mouth figuring if the liquids were to shrink my liver and make room for the Dr to band me easily, I was going to make as much room as possible. I would only be endangering myself, and I chose this for the low risk feature.
I think I was in mourning of food, but I realize now that though there are certain foods that I have to stay away from, we don't have to say good bye to food. We will actually spend more time eating and enjoying our food since we will eat 5-6 small meals.

Octo-bandsters, there are great recipes for getting the protein in at all stages, and post op surgery lists on this site that have been invaluable. What a great source of information. What everyone should know is, every doctor is different, each of us are different, and recovery is not the same for everyone. I think it is really important to follow your own doctor's instructions and conquer each day at a time. We didn't get this way because we have so much willpower. Keep drinking the protein shakes (Isopure at GNC has 50 grams), they will keep the hunger at bay along with sipping water. What an exciting time for you all, best of luck to all of you coming to bandland!

Well, I’ve got my date. I’ll be banded on 17 Oct 06. I need everyone’s help, prayers, and support, to help me make it through. I know this is something that I really need to do, but every since I got my date two days ago – reality set in. I keep questioning myself whether this is the right thing to do? For the past 10 years, I’ve yo-yo dieted. Nothing has worked. I’d loose a bunch, but gain it right back. I want this to live. I’m an unhealthy 340 pounds, and I think this might be my last real chance for success. I think my biggest fear is loosing my old friend (food). Food Well, I’ve got my date. s1m1~

I haven't been banded yet, but I can relate to that feeling. It's strange to comprehend a world without food for me. I am a person who really enjoys life and I live it up, I always have, and so I LOVE food...I love to eat! I enjoy going to restaurants. So...this is a big step, but I realize that as much as I love to live it up...in order to do that I need to live. So, this is for my children, for me, and to be around and be healthy for a long time.
