Ratgirl,
I'm not sure how old your kids are, but 4 days is probably enough. My kids are 7 & 11 and they don't know I had surgery. My husband was home with me the day I had surgery, but that was it. Outpatient surgery was Tuesday, Wed the kids were in school during the day and I napped most the day. By Thursday I was driving the kids to their activities, etc.
You should be fine. Good luck!

Ratgirl: I was banded last Thursday, and I'm still pretty sore. I feel fine otherwise - no major swelling, no nausea, not much gas. But my incisions are badly bruised and tender. I can't imagine lifting a child, or being active all day, at this point anyway. That's just my experience though; many people have had a quicker recovery.

State: Ontario | want2lose: My son is 4 years old. Sounds like 4 days should be good based on what you went through. How are you feeling now? Congratulations on losing so much weight the first 2 weeks - that is incredible!
Take care,

State: Ontario | jgandj: thanks for your feedback. So...you've been banded 5 days and are still sore. I hope your incisions get better soon. My son is very self-sufficient, and I don't really have to lift him except to get in and out of the bathtub.
Good luck to you!

Take care, | Thanks. I'm feeling good. I have a seroma / hematoma above my port incision. It is a little uncomfortable when I bend down to pick stuff up from the floor. My surgeon said it could be many weeks until it completely drains. Other then that, my energy is good, gas pains are gone. I'm walking my St. Bernard everyday and using 8lb hand weights to help my arms tone as I lose weight. I'm expecting to need a tummy tuck someday, but really dont want to have anymore plastic surgery beyond that. I'm hoping to avoid the really flappy arm thing by working on it everyday.

Sounds like you are truly making an effort to change! The seroma/hematoma doesn't sound like a lot of fun - hopefully it goes away soon. I'm worried about my stomach too...my arms are a lost cause, but I don't plan on wearing tank tops anytime soon!
Keep up the amazing work you are doing. I think you have just inspired me!

Kirsten,
I did fine after surgery. Walkiing the same day and the day after did a bit of shopping. I was careful not to lift too much but that's why I have a husband and so many children. They do it for me! lol I was walking and playing with and walking my pup on day three. I do hope yours goes as well as mine, and you have a speedy recovery.
Keep me posted, I'm very excited for you!

I'm two weeks post-op. Suposed to be on full liquids, but have been cheating a little. As long as It's not causing me any pain - do you think it's okay to add pureed foods like spinach soufflé, mashed yams etc?

Hopeworks, we were banded the same day. I was/am on two week post op clear liquids only too and THANKFULLY, TODAY IS MY LAST DAY! I go to see the surgeon tomorrow for 2 week follow up and then start pureed/mushie stage. I think even tuna fish and scrambled eggs are allowed. Anwyay, when I had called the nutritionist last week to tell her I was starving on clear liquids only and protein shakes and asked her if I could add some cream soups to the mix, she said it wasn't a good idea. They want your stomach to heal before you start eating anything else, that the band has a stitch in it to keep in in place and they prefer you heal completely. But that is up to each surgeon, everyone is different. TODAY ENDS MY1 MONTH CLEAR LIQUID DIET, WHOOHOOOOOO!! I forgot about not lifting anything, and have lifted up my 48lb daughter quite a few times in the past two weeks. Hope I didn't hurt anything!

quick update. Surgery 9.8.06, I had to take two weeks off work, the pain is still there, I can eat almost anything and I do drink with food. I am eating healthy and drinking 1% milk. I have still alot of pain near port, can't sleep comfortabley on left side yet. I do feel much better but tire easily. I have lost 17 lbs so far. I was also very very bad with the liquid diet before surgery, tried it for one week didn't stick to it very well.
I had no queasy feelings or gas pains, lucky on that I think.
Again if I had to do this over, would be nutri-system and the gym for me. This is of course just my opinion. I think I will get more used to it in time.
Patty
