Diane: I was totally agast that they would ask a person like me to go on a diet like that pre-surgery. Although mine is not full liquids, it's 2 protein shakes a day and 1 lite meal (for 3 weeks). I get to have chicken and fish and veggies and fruit and even a little snack if I want it.

It was rough the first day or two - headaches and all that. And I won't tell you that it was totally a snap, but I have been surprised at how much easier it gets every day. I'm pretty sure that has to do with cutting out sugar and carbs, both of which keep me in an uncontrollable binging on goodies mode. So the further I get from that, the more I think that darn, maybe I really can do this thang!

I'm worried at this point if I will keep my resolve or be like some of the people whose posts I've read here. They seem proud of being able to eat things like Milk Duds, Pizza, Cereal, etc., etc. I know that if I'm going to ever be a normal weight, I'm going to have to say buh-bye to things that make me go into a feeding frenzy.

I am like a druggie - and if I stay away from the drugs long enough, maybe I can kick this habit! :help:

Best of luck to you and your man. It sounds like you guys have a good thing going. It's fantastic that you can be in this thing together and depend on each other for support. Keep us posted! BJ

SherryA: You've already had your pre-op?? I don't go until Thursday. We are both scheduled for the 11th. Is yours first thing in the AM? Did they do anything I should know about during pre-op?

I know one thing - they are going to be tapping me big time for a check that day. Now THAT is going to make it VERY real for me!

Did you do a pre-op diet? Forgive me if you have already posted that. I'm having trouble keeping up with everyone's names.

Hi BJean

Yes, pre-op was today. First, I had an appointment with my nutritionist to go over my post-op diet, then I had to go to the hospital and meet the anesthesiologist (sp?), and he really only made sure I was fine for anesthesia (passed with flying colors), met with a surgical day care nurse, signed the paperwork, etc etc. Nothing really to speak of, mostly the paperwork...

Where are you having your surgery done BJean? Yes, I am the first one of the morning. I have to be there at 615am, and my surgery is 730am.

I started my pre-op diet last Wednesday (I was in Disney for two weeks and that is the day I came home)..Not too bad, because I tried it out for a week in July and did okay with it (and gave up the caffeine back then, so that was really worse than the diet now!!) How about you??

Glad to hear all went well. What time was your surgery and when did you get to leave? Did anything surprise you?

SherryA: That sounds about like it has been described to me. Glad you didn't encounter anything unexpected.

My surgery is in Southlake, TX. How about you? I think you and I will be undergoing our surgeries at about the same time!

Which Disney? Orlando or Anaheim? I used to live near Disney World. For 16 yrs. Did you have a good time?

Lucky your pre-op diet landed on the day you got home. I guess you planned it that way?

I'm not sure I could have passed up one of those Mickey ice creams on a stick. It's so much fun to bite his ears off. Was it your first Disney adventure?

Want2Lose: My husband and I drove to Nashville last night from Knoxville because I had to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m.!! Ouch. I was called very quickly and the staff escorted me and my husband up to the hospital room where he could wait on me, and it's where I went after recovery as well.

A nurse came in and took my temp, gave me two pills to take orally, and gave me a shot in my arm that thins the blood... the shot itself didn't hurt, but the medicine sure felt like something was pinching me or biting me. She also measured my legs and brought me some knee-high sock things, something about helping with the blood clots. I still have them on, supposed to wear them until tomorrow.

After that nurse was done, she told me they would come get me about 25 minutes before surgery time, which was 7:45. They arrived exactly 25 minutes early, took me down to the preop station. There I met the anesthesia team and saw my doctor. I was in the preop room getting my IV and fluids for about 30 minutes, I would say. Then they told me they were going to give me some relaxing medicine and that I probably wouldn't remember much after that. After they injected it, they said "This is the time when you spill alllll your secrets to us." I hope I passed out quickly. The last thing I remember was being wheeled to the surgery room, but don't remember anything after that.

When I woke up, I think I was just worried about breathing. It's really foggy now, but I think they still had the tube thing down my throat when I woke up. They were watching closely because I know when I woke, I coughed and they took it out immediately, or did whatever to make the pain go away. My mouth felt like a cotton ball (still does).

So then I go to the recovery room and they give me morphine for pain. By the way, the surgery ended around 9:30-10:00, and then I was in the recovery room for about an hour. That was fine with me, I was dozing in and out and letting them give me all the morphine allowable. lol. I really didn't feel much pain in the recovery room. I'm pretty sore right now, but that's a different story.

After the recovery room, they took me back to where my husband was, the hospital room. Once they did a couple of rounds to check my BP, temp and made sure I could use the restroom, and of course walk, then I was able to go home! So I was done at the hospital at about noon today. It was a very fast experience.

I'm feeling okay right now, I felt better earlier in the day. nasty Liquid Hydrocodone is not nearly as effective as morphine, nope. I've been using the heating pad that I picked up the other day, and it feels really good.

Sorry for my lengthy novel! Good luck to everyone who has surgery this week!!

Mallorie

I'm feeling really sore today. :( I think I maybe overdid some things yesterday when I felt great because of the morphine. Stupid me. Now it's kind of hard and pretty painful to get of the bed because you have to use your stomach muscles somewhat.

I think I'm hungry? I don't know. I've just had water the past two days, but I'm scared to eat even mushies yet.

I've been looking at some other posts about food, and I saw someone say she couldn't imagine eating chips because they wouldn't stay down. I wonder how you find out which foods you can eat and which foods you can't? I also read where a lady had slippage because of eating broccoli?? I guess after the fact, I'm really nervous about what to eat. :(

AMEN, If I had will power I would be thin. Its that stress binge or anxiety binge that gets me in trouble. Im hoping in the long term pain avoidance will be a great teacher to stop bad habits.
At present I am not disclosing b/c I dont want the constant attention of "how much have you lost "

What post op eating schedule does your Dr. have you on? Mine requires a week of liquids. No mushies until week 2. Are you drinking protein? Are you still taking pain meds or tylenol?
