However the dietician said that I should aim for 190 for the time being and then go from there, maybe to 157 or so. I'm not hung up on a particular number, I just want to feel and be healthy and eneregetic, a normal size, and able to look at myself in the mirror without wanting to cry.
I'm just curious as to what other people were told.

You discovered a surgeon locally (10 min drive) instead of across your state (3 hour drive) if there were no additional expenses and they would accept your info from Dr you have surgery scheduled with??

I found out my surgery date today 12/30 but it requires 2 more trips across, another $500 program fee and the local Dr is a center of excellence as well and likely will accept everything and do surgery within same time frame.

I see pro's being -

Dr is 10 mins away
I CAN attend bi-monthly support groups locally
Fills will be local
No hotel bills

Help!?!:huh2:

I don't smoke, but I have noticed that alot of posters are having to quit before being banded and are having a hard time with it.

I get daily Feng Shui Tips from Ellen Whitehurst, they are usually on point for some event or occassion that corresponds to that day or sometimes they are just random.

Today's was about how to quit smoking so I thought I would share it...hope it helps.

***

Here is your Daily Feng Shui Tip for Thursday, November 19

'The Great American Smokeout' encourages smokers to quit the habit for just one day so they can see that they can actually do it and perhaps quit for a lifetime. A long, healthy and happy lifetime. But as anyone who has ever smoked knows, quitting is harder than anyone besides a smoker could ever imagine. That said, there are some 'tricks' or 'tips' that might make stopping a little less traumatic. Once you make the decision to quit and are weaning yourself off cigarettes, change to a brand that's much less appealing to you whenever you buy a pack. This not only reduces the pleasure you get from smoking, but will also affect your blood chemistry reaction, making it easier to eventually stop. Buy only one pack of cigarettes at a time while thinking of better ways of spending your money. Don't buy cartons while you're trying to quit. Smoke your first cigarette an hour later than you would normally start. Wait an hour longer than the day prior before lighting up. Lastly, take the nicotine out of your system by drinking a mixture of a half-teaspoon of cream of tartar and eight ounces of orange juice before retiring for the night. The tartar will help clear the toxins from your system while the orange juice replaces depleted vitamin C. Do this for 21 nights straight and without fail cigarettes will begin to taste yucky and you'll begin to think it's easier not to smoke than to light up. As always, consult a medical professional when necessary.
Warm Regards,
Ellen Whitehurst

I have my LAP-BANDŽ surgery scheduled for January 4th but am now getting really anxious about my decision. You see, I had a liver transplant on April23rd of 2008 and so far have been doing great. I had my second meeting with the LAP-BANDŽ Dr. yesterday and he explained that in order to place the band they have to lift your liver to place it. This really scared me and I told him that but he assured me that he knows what he's doing and it will be ok. He used to work in transplant before going to the LAP-BANDŽ surgery so I think he should know what he's doing and what I'm up against. He also said that because of my transplant I have a lot of scar tissue that he will have to work around so that kind of made me feel even worse. I know I need to lose this weight but I know that my liver is more important to me that the weight and a liver transplant is an awful thing to go through and I sure don't want to have to repeat it if something were to happen because of this surgery. I'm asking everyone to please pray for me to make the right decision, I don't have long to make up my mind. I really only need to lose 50-60 lbs. so I do wish I could do this on my own but I have tried many times and failed.
Thanks for listening and I hope all of you are having a good day and have a Wonderful Thanksgiving next week.

You are reading the words of a very desperate woman! I am 25, and weigh 222 (4lbs more than last month, 25lbs more than last year) A personal trainer, gym membership, and several diets later and I'm still gaining weight consistantly (seems to be no medical reason for this but I recently found out that I gorge myself in my sleep, clean up the mess and go back to bed.) I have an appointment next month to see Dr ganta (he does single incision lap band) and I am terrified of being rejected through tricare. My BMI is 36%, I have elevated cholesterol, possibly pre diabetic, who knows (runs in the family) but my blood pressure is normal and I am not arthritic. Really dont know where to go from here if I am rejected (which I think I will be) Any thoughts on the subject?

I understand (i think) the liquid and puree portion of the post-surgery diet, but what I don't understand about the "regular food" part is the portions.

I see posts about eating a 1/2 cup but is that per food group, or total???

For example, if you had meat, veggie and fruit would it be 1/2 cup of each??? (or suggested portion of each)
Or is it 1/2 cup total???

I am sorry if this is a dumb question, but for some reason, my mind isn't comprehending this...maybe it's the two anesthesias in two weeks that affected my brain.

Thanks for all advice.

I need help! I'm a freshman in college and I've just started low carb diet today. My surgery is schedule for Dec. 23. I have to lose 5% of my weight which is 15 lbs (kinda ironic with the whole freshmen 15 thing). My first problem is...I really don't know what to eat. I've been eating only salads at school because every type of meat is almost always covered with breaded or flour battered of some kind. Does anyone have a recipes for food that I could make easily? I have a microwave and we do have a stove in the dorm on my floor.

My next question is, can you lose 15lbs with just a month of low carb? How much has everyone lost with a month of this diet?

Hello everyone.

I first looked into the lapband 2 years ago. I went to see Dr. Goldstein's presentation in Voorhees, NJ at Virtua and he did a great job convincing everyone the band was the way to go, and I still believe that. But when I met with him, he told me they don't band on anyone over 340. I wrote him a letter asking if it had changed and what if anything I could do and I got a call back that it hadn't changed (its been a year now) but I might try other places, or I could get a sleeve gastrectomy.

So I called University of Penn Hospital and spoke with them and they said if I got under 500 I could probably get a band but that they would strongly urge me to get sleeve gastrectomy as well because I'm not going to lose the kind of weight I need to with a band.

I'm 27, I'm still actually fairly active and I go to a personal trainer 3 days a week to make sure I stay that way as long as possible but how many years of people telling me no do I have left? I just want this surgery so bad and I won't consider GB or Sleeve Gastrectomy because they're too invasive. I know I can manage living with a band, I want it so badly but it seems like everyone is trying to steer me away, and everytime another door is shut I just feel worse.

Sorry for the rant just looking for anyone who can tell me what I should do. Do I just give up and live this way?

-Jeff
