Hello everyone,
I'm new to the site and I'm patiently, well not so patiently, awaiting my insurance approval. I've been through the 6 months of medically supervised weight loss, had my psych evaluation, been to the nutritionist and all that jazz. My Dr has sent everything to the insurance and it's been about a week. Anyone know how long it takes for the review process?

So to be perfectly honest, I've lurked on this forum a little when I've been unable to work out what the hell is going on with my band at a couple of stages, but never registered until now. There's loads of useful info on here, it's great!
Anyway, come December I'll have been banded 3 years, and despite amazingly supportive family and friends, its a little different talking to people who actually went through it as well, I think, so here I am. Trying to get back to my goal weight for the second time (first time was slightly overfilled, got heartburn and had a deflation, then put on weight again, go figure). :)

Hello, my name is Angie. I am 28 years old and got the shock of a life time today when I went to the doctor and found out that I weigh about 282, I never thought that I would weigh this much, I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005 and I have been struggling with that ever since then. My doc says that is part of the reason I am so heavy, I have tried dieting and exercising but nothing seems to work. I am all for getting the lap band but my fiance and I want to hear from people how they are liking it and if they think it is really worth it. Is it uncomfortable or anything like that? Please feel free to let me know anything you might want to know, I haven't made any appointments yet or anything. I want to know how other people feel about having it and stuff like that.

Thanks for your time!

Hello! I am a new member of the forum but have been reading posts for a couple months now. I can honestly say that some of the things I have read on here helped me to make the decision to go forward. Initially I was embarrassed that I needed it and now I know that everyone is different and this is not the easy road.

I am hoping to have surgery in January or February. So far I have started the process with my insurance company and have been on their program for a little over a month. With the diet my doctor put me on I lost 7 pounds already but the blood pressure medicine she put me on is giving me bad headaches so I want to get off of it but I'm affraid that will disqualify me for surgery.

The insurance company is making it difficult, but I'm determined to get this and have it covered by them. They told me at first, in not so many words, that even though I'm morbidly obese I'm not sick enough to qualify. I'm having a hard time finding a surgeon they will cover that isn't a total jerk and I am also wondering how much fills costs and if the insurance typically covers them or not.

I think it comes down to the fact that I want and need this and I feel like they are working against me. I would appreciate any advice. I am with Pres in New Mexico.

Hey everybody! My name is Amber and Im a 34 year old (soon to be 35 in December) and this is my first time posting here. I've been reading alot of information on lap-band and just recently found out that the insurance that we will be switching to in January will cover the surgery. I have an appt with my primary care doctor on Monday to get started on the 6 month physician led diet. Im bummed that I will have to wait 6 months- im ready to do this NOW!

I used to be very, very active until my junior year in HS when I hurt my knee. I kept eating the way I used to but being inactive really made the weight packing on. When I got married 7 years ago, I was 225- then I got pg with twin boys who were born at 26 weeks. My first born son, Colin, who weighed 1 lb 13 oz passed away at 3 days old. Twin B- Drew, who weighed 1 lb 11 oz was in the NICU for 109 days. So naturally, I've been dealing with depression since that time but it wasnt until I got pg with my 3rd son and delivered him that I REALLY started gaining weight. I had PPD pretty bad after Ryan was born and all of the weight that I lost post pregnancy I gained back plus I've added 20 lbs. Right now- Im at my most miserable at 274 lbs.

Like most of you, I've tried dieting and it doesnt work for me. I get really motivated but life gets in the way and I jsut cant do it on my own. I feel like WLS is going to be THE RIGHT TOOL for me to help me get back to who I used to be. I need to be a good wife to my husband who has been incredibly supportive (he is also overweight but he can lose 75 lbs in 4-5 months on WW while Im struggling to lose 10 during that same time period) and a better mom to my kids. I long for the day that Im not ashamed of myself to get out and go to the park with them, or Im not too tired to kick the soccer ball with them, or too uncomfortable to get on the floor and play trains with them. I dont want them to be embarassed because they have a fat mom.

Thanks for having me here!
Amber

I just started thinking about LAP-BAND®® surgery Saturday after a week in the hospital. I was inundated with ads from 1800GetSlim while confined to bed rest, so I went to their website within an hour of getting home and signed up for the free insurance verification they offer. Someone called me within an hour to follow up on my request and get some additional information. Henry was so nice and made me really feel comfortable talking to him about the whole thing, so I made an appointment for a consult. Since then, I have read some less than complimentary comments about them on this forum. I was crushed, because they were so convenient to me and so nice to me!

I did some more research and found a doctor about 50 miles away whose clinic is designated as a Center for Excellence. He accepts my insurance (TriCare), though he is considered to be out-of-network. I checked the TriCare website, and there are no in-network bariatric surgeons in my area -- not even up to 250 miles away! I signed up for a seminar with Dr. Krahn for this Saturday in Rancho Cucamonga. I'm so excited! I'm hoping this is the beginning of some big changes in my life!

Now to cancel my consult and seminar reservation at 1800GetSlim!

My name is Heather, I just joined this site a few days ago and I have been reading posts here for a few days. (Even posted an insurance question, but thought I should probably formally introduce myself. LOL!)
Last week I spoke to my primary care doctor about having Lapband surgery. She thinks that it is my only option to be able to loose weight since I can't exercise due to facet disease. I can't exercise because of the pain from the facet disease, yet the pain gets worse as I gain weight. It's a catch-22.
I am going to a siminar next Tuesday, the 24th. I don't know what to expect, so if anyone has any advice, it is appreciated!

Do you know what is great about life? You have a choice everyday to make your life your own. To start new, to choose your path.

Do you know what is great about life? You have a choice everyday to make your life your own. To start new, to choose your path.

And that is coincidently, what is great about the lapband! For those of you trying to decide, or for those of you who have committed to this journey...welcome!

You are making a choice to change...and for the better!

The band is certainly not the answer to all of our problems. It is not a band for the brain, but it is a tool to help us make better decisions. And it is awesome!

Is it the easy way out? Uh....hell no. But it can make things easier. And that is what matters. Who cares what other people think! As one of my fellow bloggers says(Sarah) when people tell her she "took the easy way"...she says "You're right...it was easy to choose life".

Sometimes, even with the band, you may feel like you can eat a horse. And when you try to eat that horse, you may be able too! But that will change over time, and with more restriction.

It doesnt matter why we choose weight loss surgery. Maybe we want to play with our kids, or rock hot pants. Maybe we want to be able to breathe or walk without pain. It is your choice.

I know it can be scary at the very beginning. Surgery, recovery, the fear of losing one of our best friends (food), but we make it through.

Some of lose weight fast. For others...is is a slower loss. But we are losing. And with the loss of the weight comes the addition of other things.

Confidence.
Exercise.
Lung capacity.
Freedom.
Life.

This is a fantastic forum for finding answers. There is an awesome blogger community as well.

I just wanted to wish everyone luck! I hope you find what you are looking for. I am one of those people that believe you can achieve it if you can dream it. You are not a failure for trying diets that have failed. We have all been there. We are resilient. We are making a comeback!

I don't regret a minute of this journey so far.

You can do this~!!!

My hardest thing to cope with has been the cravings. Has anyone been struggeling with cravings? If so, what have you done to overcome them? I just try to get my mind off and do something else. Boy is it tuff sometimes. Last night all I wanted was some chicken. I could have just pulled it off the bone and went to town. Instead I grabed my protein shake and did what I could to take my mind off of the little bird.

I'm really looking forward to the results by the end of the year!:smile2:

I am trying to get as much information and support before the surgery and found this forum. I started my pre-op diet today and I am using the Premier chocolate protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and a lean cuisine for dinner. I can substitue another protein shake [I can see these getting difficult to get down] as long as it is under 250 cal. Any recommendations? Thanks

Got banded 7 years ago. So many stories, so much to tell. I lost 120 pounds slowly and without thinking. In fact, got a little underweight! I am a success story, no doubt. Went for a check up and found slight slippage. The doc offered to reband with the new version, which I did. I'm 10 days post op now. He repaired a hiatal hernia, for which I had no idea - and am glad. Came to the site to check on others with the same issues, and found great comfort.

I've gained some post op weight, which I am assuming is water retention from the sodium overdose and swelling. Of course, I spazzed... want to get back down again, and I feel like I'm overweight all of a sudden.

Thanks for all the great support on this forum. I"ve been through it all - ups, downs, great weight loss, great adventures because of it - even won a contest in the National Enquirer for the best weight loss results! Had my photo splashed across the country in my swimsuit.

If I can be of comfort or support to anyone in doubt about this awesome topic of being banded.....I am here. My husband was banded 8 years ago and lost 230 pounds. So, we are living proof of what can happen to YOU, too.
