Some may find this beneficial... I attended a monthly support meeting/dinner hosted by my Dr last night. This was a very nice affair w/cooking demonstration by the general practioner in his ofice - the food he prepared was both delicious and healthy.

The benefit... I spoke with both my Dr and the Dietician - bascially complaining (in a nice way) that I hadn't lost an ounce w/n the past 3 weeks. I recently had a fill (last Tuesday), I'm at 6.2ml(cc's) and don't have any restriction. So, I informed my Doc that instead of returning in 8 wks (his normal schedule), I would see him in 4-6 wks. He didn't argue, just said I'll see you then.

Then I spoke with the dietician at length about not feeling restriction and the holding patern I'm currently in. Her suggestion to me was to chew normally, don't chew until the food is mush/liquid... she went on to explain that chewing my food normally would make certain that the food stayed w/n the bad and guarantee that I feel full. She said that chewing as we're all told aids the food in slipping through the pouch and into the stomach - the same premise as slidder foods. This is the first day that I've tried this and so far so good.

I actually feel full (not stuck) and very comfortable. I was also told to increase my water intake (which I know is one of my problems) I didn't think of it before, but as the dietician explained that we really need to drink water to help flush the protein through our system.

I'm sure that many of you know all this already; for the few of you like me who didn't - I hope you find this beneficial.

Luckily, I brought yummy lunch (salsa chicken and some green beans--left over from last night). Pizza is like my favorite thing ever (and not saying I'll never have it again), but I think it would be bad to try it now, as I'm still on soft and I have been STALLED for 2 weeks with the weight loss!!

Anyway, needed to vent. I miss pizza!!!

Hi my wonderful support! Just to refresh....surgery on 11/12, problem getting liquids down, dehydrated, vomiting 1X, and nausea.
I saw the surgeon this morning. I was down 13lbs from last Thursday and he was concerned. After talking and really listening to me, he thought what might be happening is that I had a gas bubble stuck in my band!
He goes to my port and sure enough......1/2cc of saline AND 1cc of air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Almost instant relief when it was removed. The nurse brought me a cup of water and i had more drank in 5 minutes than I was able to get down all morning long! I AM SOOOOO HAPPY!
He also sent me for bloodwork to see how low my electrolytes were and if he needed to admit me back into hospital for dehydration. I am confident now, that won't be necessary. Thank you all for youe suggestions and support

I don't think it was really overeating, I think it was what I ate.
I had a fill of 2 cc (total of 4 now) last Thursday but I am still starving. I have been able to eat whatever I want but have tried to watch. I had some salsa and tostitos last night without a problem
Tonight I had fish with orange ginger marinade (Aldi's $.98 for a single serving) and some canned peas (my favorite veggetable). The pea skins were kind of crunchy, not soft like the kind I usually buy.
I had almost finished the fish and took a forkful of the peas. On the 2nd forkful the pain began. I was able to drink some water without a problem so I am not sure if it was stuck or what.
I started to sweat. Took a walk which usually helps if I swallow something I haven't chewed right and it seemed to get worse. Tried to lie down and it got even worse.
Chewed 2 papaya enzyme tabs and began burping. After about 1 hour I felt better but I was exhausted. I fell asleep for almost 2 hours and now feel better.
I don't want to ever feel that pain again, the gas pain was bad but this was 100% worse.

I celebrated reaching my goal weight this week. I have lost 100 pounds! I was banded on 3/12/09 and have had two fills. My high weight was 297 and I am currently 195. I currently have 4cc's in my band and my last fill was in May. I have gone from wearing a sized 48 pant to a 34 pant. While I don't advocate this, I have lost my weight without doing any additional exercise. It really feels good to not be carrying the additional weight around any more. I still enjoy having my morning protein shake for breakfast, typically a high protein lean cuisine meal for lunch, whatever my wife makes for dinner (in appropriate amounts) and a skinny cow ice cream sandwich for dessert. I find that my restriction comes and goes...sometimes I can eat half a cheeseburger and sometimes I can only eat two bites. I think part of my success has been weening myself off carbs. It's a good thing that bandsters have trouble eating breads, tortillas, rolls, etc because that was my down fall. Enjoying life and wishing the rest of you the same success.

I was 311 on 8/1, 295 on 8/27, 272 for my first fill on 11/03. I have seen 262 on my home scale, but I am lingering at about 265.

Greetings! i have been putting this off for some time and need some help. First, my story. I started pre-op dieting on 8/1, and had my surgery on 8/27. I was 311 on 8/1, 295 on 8/27, 272 for my first fill on 11/03. I have seen 262 on my home scale, but I am lingering at about 265.

So, obviously, I'm thrilled about my numbers, if you will, but again, they're just numbers. My weight loss is not consistent, but i must say that i am partially satisfied with my results.

I am realizing how much work this is! If I dont go to the gym, or exercise on my hamster wheel (treadmill) in my home, the scale doesnt move. If I make some poor food choices, the scale doesnt move.

So I guess I'm asking you all: Do you become complacent in your weight loss? I feel like I take breaks from it. I often say to myself, "i lost a lot of weight already, I can try that." Is this always a bad idea? I think what i have done is drasticallychanged the way I eat, more importantly, the portion size. I enjoy eating things that i never would consider before, because I knew I couldnt stop. I guess I can say that i just dont think I'm doing enough, and everyone is always talking about it with me, so i feel like if I'm not making constant progress, I'm failing.

Are plateaus normal?

thanks for your help.

Hi all. I have a weird question.
If your not supposed to feel restricted or full until after your first fill, why do I feel full with any liquid I drink at all? Even 3 little sips of water. It will take me at least 6 full hours to drink 20 ounces of water and that is with a very uncomfortable pressure and bubbly mess going on inside.
If your supposed to be able to drink normal amounts of water and not feel restricted, I just don't get it. Liquid runs through even the smallest of space........Please help me to figure out what is going on! I am losing patience quick with this. I have done everything I am supposed to and this isn't going well.
On a positive note......my pain is almost all gone in the incision areas:thumbup:

My question is how do I know if its the "sweet spot" - how will I know I'm getting the best restriction I can??? My doc cancelled my next appt (for next week) since I finally have restriction. So I am not scheduled for another fill until I call and think I need one. I'm just so happy to have some- and I finally found out what getting stuck means.......ouch!! So should I just go with this for now???? thanks for any help!!!

So tonight I dragged out 3 of them and tried them on....THEY ARE GIANT ON ME!!! The navy strapless which previously was great for showing off my giant arms is now falling off, The purple barney costume looks like a mumu, and best of all the lime green and orange halter looks ridiculous....oh wait that has not changed.

I am thinking about trying on my wedding dress next time I am at home......

Take out those dresses and remember how fabulous you were and how now you would be too hot to even be asked!!!

Ok, I am not sure if I am too tight or what is going on. I have 6.5 cc's in my band and things have been going well for me.. But in the last few days everything seems to get stuck.. I have hardly eaten today and tried to have dinner with my family and ate one pickle slice and one fry and it got stuck.. completely RUINED my whole meal as I was unable to eat a lick of anything else so I sat there and watched everyone else enjoy their meal.

I am getting discouraged with this band and am honestly wishing I had done gastric instead. I want to enjoy my meals with my family.. I hate this getting stuck crap and watching everyone else eat. Is this really worth it to me?? I am seriously asking myself that a lot lately.

I am definitely going to make an appt with my doc and have some taken out because this is no way to live.. at this point I am sure my stoma is swollen thus making things worse. I used to worry about over-eating and now I hardly enjoy a meal anymore and it just sucks.

So, I was banded just 2 months ago and had my first "fill" 3 weeks ago. I've been trying to figure out exactly how much I should be chewing my food before swallowing.

The dietitian and the surgeon are telling me that I should chew well, but not to paste/pureed consistency. They want the food to stay in my pouch longer so that I feel full longer. However, when I do not chew my food to paste consistency, I sometimes get that "stuck" feeling and a horrible tightness in my chest and sometimes have to throw up -- I believe it's called a PB (productive burp).

I have no problem at all eating any type of food if I chew it really well, but I find that I can eat much more than I should be able to eat. It also seems like my full feeling (which is not really a full feeling) doesn't last as long as I would like it to last. I'm usually hungry again within a couple of hours.

I know everyone is different, but I would appreciate any comments you experienced banders might have.

Should I stop chewing my food to a paste consistency and risk the pain of the "stuck" feeling?

Should I chew my food to a paste consistency, but get a fill to make me tighter?

I've lost 52 lbs in the 2 months since the surgery, but things are really slowing down now -- and I know it's because I can eat more than I should be able to eat.
