Well friends, yesterday was my 2 year bandaversary. It's still hard to beleive. while I haven't reached goal. I have lost about 70% of my weight. I had a couple set backs, and had to start over again at one point, but I never gave up. It's been the VERY BEST thing I've ever done just for me. I'm off almost all the medications I was taking. I'm active again. Have my self esteem back. My marriage is good. I have energy. I enjoy shoppiing again. It's all been good. My best advice? Don't ever give up. I'm delighted to have made it this far.

Hi all...

Have a question... bit concerned...maybe over reacting...

I was in hospital for 4 days, stuck on a liquid diet that was supposed to be post op (surgery #2) but I didn't need to be on because I didn't end up having the surgery. Basically the nurses kept forgetting to ask the doctor if it's ok to chart that I was on solids, so the meal people couldn't do anything about it... and the nurses couldn't get in touch with the doctor because he was off work.

I got home the other night and was STARVVVVVVVVVVVING. So ate a bit too much. Definitely had some discomfort... but I'm certain it was not in the pouch, because 1. I'm not restricted yet 2. I could feel every bite slipping through and 3. I was naughty and drank water while eating thus food leaving the pouch (my biggest habit is drinking with a meal, slowly tackling that)...

Anyway.

I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I was getting constipated... I had the pain associated with that in the (I think) right places.. not near the stomach.. over a bit to the right and down a bit. Not as low down as TTOM pain though...

Woke up and drank some metamucil.. in the morning I had no loo troubles... but the shooting pain I felt when bending forward was quite horrible...

After an hour or so it went away. Haven't had that shooting pain again either....

Since then... about half an hour after I eat every single time (and I have been fierce about eating small amounts after the other night...) I get pain in that area (the constipation-ish area) ....Just wondering if anyone has had this and if it's gone away... or if I should be worried at all?? Could me eating too much have done something in that area??

I'm just really confused because I don't believe it's actually associated with the band... but then again I'm not sure :(

I had my surgery in July of 2008. So I have had my band for a year-and-a-half and have stopped losing. In fact I am gaining. I am really frustrated. My port flipped upside down once and I got that fixed. The last time I went to my doc he said it was trying to flip again. I feel like if it has or does flip again I may just get it removed altogether because I cannot afford to keep paying to get it fixed, plus I'm not losing any weight. I fell depressed when I read all the success stories other people have had and it just isn't working for me. As of right now I am a little worried that I have stretched my pouch. Does anyone know how to tell if you have actually stretched it? Any advice would be much appreciated because I am feeling totally defeated!!:frown:

I did better on my own with the motivation of getting surgery. I actually lost over 40lbs on my own so that I could get surgery. I am filled 7.5 cc in my 10 cc band. I have no restriction and my Dr. does not want to fill my band any more until I lose more weight. I have heard if I try liquids for a week or so it will help me get some restriction back. Does any one know if this is true? If so would it be clear liquids as well as full liquids? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Since my surgery I have had the increased desire to actually date and go out more. It has been frustrating because no one really interests me & I am not the social butterfly. All the good guys seem to be taken. My mother says that I am too picky but I don't agree. At any rate, an old friend that I have known for many years before my surgery called the other day. I have not seen him in like a year because he moved about 2 hours from me for a new job but we talk at least monthly. I have known him for like 8 years & we went out occasionally but nothing serious ever materialized because I am not attracted to him in a romantic kind of way. He has invited me to come up to Northern Va. to go to a Washington Wizards basketball game with him Saturday and to hang out. Of course I told him that I would drive up. Then, I got up the courage to contact an old friend that I saw on Facebook. I have not seen him since 2005 because he moved to North Carolina & we just went in different directions and lost contact. Needless to say it has been two weeks since we "found" each other and we talk/send e-mails or texts daily. We have made plans to see each other next weekend and hang out. I have lost about 140 pounds since the last time he saw me. He has seen recent pics of me and I told him that I had lap band surgery. I am actually nervous about seeing him because I really did like him. Hopefully both outings will happen. Seems here lately my life has been work and worrying about gaining weight/not losing anything. I go out with my girl friends and happy hour type stuff with co-workers/friends but this is the first one on one with a guy since I don't know when. I need to have some fun for a change.

My husband and I went through fertility treatments in trying to have kids. It didn't work. We were open with most people about it. While some were quite supportive, others weren't, and I always felt that I had to give a play by play report to those who knew.

Now that I am pursuing WLS, I have told DH that I do not want to tell anyone. In fact, the only person I have told is my best friend, as well as those who read my blog (only IRL person who reads it is my BF, everyone else are those who I met through online forums when trying to have a baby).

Part of the reason I'm not telling anyone, not even my mom or siblings, is that I don't want "food police" and two, I just want some privacy this time around.

DH told his mom and dad, because his mom, who is diabetic and on insulin shots, was talking about possible gastric bypass. He told her hoping she could talk with me for support. While I wasn't pleased with this, I understood why he told them, but asked him not to tell anyone else.

I find out today at lunch, when I went home and fixed both of us chicken breasts over salad greens and he said he'd be going to work and eating a couple of tacos and a burrito (he runs a mexican food restaurant). He then said that he told one of his workers that I had gone on a low-carb diet. I asked him if she knew why I was doing this, and he said he'd told her about my wanting to have the surgery.

I'm both really pi$$ed off as well as very disappointed that he didn't respect my wishes for not telling anyone. It's not his story to tell.

Has anyone else had this happen to you, and if so, how did you handle it? Do you think I should go and ask his employee not to repeat it, which may be too late now?

Ugh, I really wanted to throw my dinner plate at him today!

...up until a few weeks ago, I was doing so good! I was eating healthy, avoiding sweets, excercising 4 days a week... but that all went downhill. I have been under so much stress!

We are running short of work at work and everyone is grouchy, negative and argumentative. I usually go to the gym during lunch, but havent been taking one because we are working so hard trying to aquire some work so they dont have to start laying people off. YIKES!

My kids have been keeping me busy after work and on weekends with homecoming games and dances, halloween, birthdays, meetings at school, friend activities.. sigh, I can hardly breathe these days! When I do have a spare night, all I want to do is rest and eat, not go to the gym like I should. Apparently when I am stressed I eat. I never noticed it before, but I sure have now!

I havent been to the gym in 3 weeks, have been eating ice cream, chocolate, cookies, and WAY too much in portion size. I'm excited to get another fill, hoping to reach that sweet spot someday, but i'm also nervous because I'm ashamed that I prolly havent lost any weight since I was there 7 weeks ago.

Okay so I had something unexpected happen this morning. I took a big-o-drink of water. More like three consecutive drinks. Swallow, swallow, swallow….you get what I am saying. I actually felt the water being held up. Like not super drastic, but I felt it in my stoma and throat. I felt a mild alert over the situation. Um, never had that happen before! Wow! Until this happened this morning I have been able to chug-a-lug my water at a good rate, any time of day. I know, some don’t understand why people like me drink so fast, but we are all different. I am a fish! Ha! Just kidding but I have a habit of drinking a couple of swallows each drink. Not all the time now as I am working on slowing down….but I am a drinker.

I have been reading on this board for a while now, so there have been many subjects covered. Which I love, by the way, because it feels good to have working knowledge of the band, even if it is not my own working knowledge. : ) So, thank you all for sharing your band experiences! You are appreciated! That being said, I’ve thought it is strange when people talk about having a hard time getting there liquids in. Sipping through out the day….sucking on ice cubes, ect. I’ve read many posts about not being able to tolerate food in the mornings. Even some posts about not being able to eat anything solid until evening.

That being said, I know our bands are fickle. Each person can have there band affected differently. Some talk about weather, flying, stress, their monthly visitor, a bad PB episode, drinking cold liquids, and much more, and how it can affect the bands tightness. What I would really like to know is how tight you prefer to keep your bands’? Do you keep your band snug enough to feel water back up if you drink a big ol’ drink? Are you a sipper? Can you eat in the mornings, or afternoons? Do you have to wait on your band to loosen up before a meal? Can you put into words what band restriction means to you?

I am curious on what the “norm” is and if is varies a great deal from person to person. I am working on getting to my sweet spot or being in the green zone. For me, I can enjoy breakfast everyday. Depending on the food, I can eat a cup to ¾ cup of food at a meal. I focus mainly on protein and often feel like I leave out veggies and fruits almost completely. I seem to have better success when I eat steamed veggies vs. fresh veggies using broccoli and carrots as a good example of this. My band tolerates muffins and cake well, wish came as a surprise to me. We had treats at work and I tried these yummies and had no issues. I have no idea if I can eat bread, because I have cut it completely out of my diet. I no longer eat a sandwich or anything like that. I stick to the guts, the insides of a sandwich. Protein, protein, protein…

I am planning on posting this in the forum as well as a blog entry. Please reply and share how you like your band, and what works best for you. Last monthish there were some great posts about a few gals feeling there bands were too tight. I know from your posts that being to tight does not equal weight loss or a safe way to keep your band. So all experience is valuable! I am scheduled for an up coming fill in December and I have been on and off the fence about it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and if you don’t feel comfortable posting, please PM me. You guys are the best!

Hey ya'll. Had my surgery in February, 2009. I am down about 70 pounds. Halfway to goal! It has been hard work, but worth every second. And having such a supportive family helps. ALOT!
Recently, I found out I don't quite have all the support I thought I did, and it has been devistating!! My daughter was talking to my nephew, and they began discussing my weight loss. Turns out my sister has been extremely mean behind my back and has been telling my nephew that I "cheated."
I should have seen this coming. When I had the surgery it took her two weeks to come see me. And when she did, she sat and cried complaining that "fat people" don't visit people who've just had WLS. (my sister is morbidly obese)
Then about five months later, at my son's birthday party, when I saw her, she said nothing about my appearance and just dove into this "me me me" story. I tried to be kind throughout the party, but must admit my feelings were hurt and I did withdraw a bit. Days later my Mom tells me that my sister is mad at me for IGNORING her at the party. Whatev..... :cursing:
Anyway, this comment about "cheating" just grates my cheese. I mean we work just as friggin hard as "normal" people to lose weight. I bust my a##. I work out seven days a week, I can't remember the last time I had my favorite food!! I'm constantly watching fat grams, calories, carbs and proteins! HOW THE HELL IS THAT CHEATING??

How do you assess when you should stop eating? I am talking particularly about restaurants where they give you way too much food. Like yesterday when I was having breakfast and I ordered 2 scrambled eggs and wheat toast. I had about half the eggs and I felt a twinge of restriction. So I had 1 bite of the toast and then quit. But when the twinge subsides do you eat a little bit more? I didn't and I think it was the right decision because I felt restricted for a few hours afterwards. That is really all I can eat these days. I heard Dr Sanjay Gupta say lately on TV that once you feel 60% full you should quit eating, because in 15 minutes the rest of the food will fill your stomach. I am a lifetime overeater so this is of course difficult for me. How do you assess how much to eat when you sit down to a meal?
I really like the restriction I'm at, I just have to adjust to it. Anyone have any thoughts?

Without going into great detail about what I'm personally enduring in a rather close (or rather, previously close) relationship I had with a girlfriend, has anyone else encountered a loss of a friendship or partner in life following WLS surgery ??? I'm feeling a bit like a line is being drawn in my friendships. Some of them completely stand beside me and are so supportive. Others, and unfortunately one in particular that's painful to lose to me, is acting as if I've personally insulted her by doing what I've done. Yes, she's obese, an absolutely gorgeous woman who actually was approved for the surgery but made the last minute decision to not have it. Finances, and a husband who feared losing her once thin, caused her to cave on her former decision to have it. Perhaps she simply regrets the decision and her pride won't allow her to express that???? Or maybe I'm doing something that i'm not aware of that is upsetting to her??? I know she refuses to even acknowledge that I've lost any weight at all. The only time she speaks of my WLS at all is when I complain that I can't have this or that...she then says 'ohhh i knew that would be a pain .. so glad I didn't do it'. The other day we were at a bowling event, and a few other people noted that I'd lost a great amount of weight. She stood up, excused herself and literally stormed off. I asked the ladies to drop the subject. I don't know what to do and feel as if there is no hope in trying to rectify this situation and part of me is sad that she won't at least be supportive of what I've done.

Has anyone else endured this????

Hey guys Im new on here.. My names Hali im from tx. One of the nurses from the hospital that I go to suggested this site. I was banded in Dec of 07 and I have lost about 50 lbs. I have had a lot of problems with throwing up so the doc thought my band was too full and my stomach was probably swollen so he kept taking stuff out and putting it back in. I played that game for about a year until everything came out of my band. Now we have found out that my band has slipped probably from all of the throwing up. I have to have surgery again to either remove it or replace it. They said that this hardly ever happens.. only to about 1 out of 200 patients but I'm scared that it will happen again. They also told me that they have better bands now that they believe I will do better with. If I do not get another band then there is a big possibility that I will gain my weight back pretty fast.. What do you guys think? I'm not sure what to do..Either way I have to have surgery pretty soon :(

I had my surgery on 9/24/09 and i've been working so hard at loosing weight. I have no restriction yet, so my weight loss has been mostly willpower, and will continue to be so for a few more weeks.

So my partner brough in four candybars yesterday, and a family sized pack of oreos today. And I confronted her and she got so angry at me!

She said she didn't understand why she should be forced to change her lifestyle to match my diet. She said she hated the foods I have to eat now, and wants to eat her own food.

I said that was fine, that I just wanted her to bring in enough for her to eat in one sitting. That pack of oreos sitting in the kitchen is a killer for me. I sit up late at night on the pc, and I have trouble with late night snacking. Now there are oreos to entice me - wonderful!

She doesn't get it. She just kept yelling, saying she wasn't sabotaging me, getting so defensive. So now i feel horrible, like I've done something wrong.

How can I live here if I can't get the support from the one other person that lives here too? Why is she doing this to me? I've been struggling for years and years and years, and now I not only have to fight my hunger and diet, but I have to fight her too?

This is absolutely tearing me up, and she just keeps saying she's not trying to sabotage me - I just do not believe her. I don't know what to do.

Ok I'm at work so I gotta make this short. The band has been a complete success. I've lost 190 lbs and now weigh about 130 lbs. I exercise regularly (5 days a week) and am much happier / healthier. But I've got one or two little issues that I've been ignoring for some time.

When I walk too far or for too long, my back, hips, or stomach begin to hurt. It's always one or the other - either my stomach will hurt as if I have gas, my back will hurt like i've been bending over too long, or my hips will hurt like I'm carrying too much weight. This isn't significant pain and has been going on for over a year now; it hasn't worsened at all. It also hasn't gone away!

A few details: the pain is worse if I walk a lot after I eat (this is especially common for the stomach pain). When I sit down- it goes away almost instantly.

Any idea what is causing this? It only occurs when I walk or jog- swimming, biking, eliptical - none of those cause these issues. I also make it a point to lift weights in order to keep my muscles strong (including Core muscles)- that has never caused pain either.

Any suggestions are appreciated :)

I already feel better, but I had to take migraine medicine today, so of course I have heartburn from that. I am starting on a prescription of 4 pills a day for heartburn for 1 week, then going down to two a day.
My advice for anyone who has reaccurring heartburn is to get to the doc and get an unfill before it gets too bad. I am looking forward to eating food and keeping it down, and not feeling pain every day.

I am leaving for Thailand in a few weeks and will be there for 5 weeks. I grew up there so I love all Thai food. Right now I have some restriction but I am not there yet so the lbs that I've lost is mainly will power.

I am scared that I will gain a lot of weight back from having not so much restriction. Well, like this past week, I have been dealing with H1N1 flu in my house. All of my kids got it, my almost 2 year old just got diagnosed yesterday. My mom and sisters (they watch them for me when I work) got it too and is still dealing with it. As for me, I am going to urgent care tonight and see what is going on with me (I am sick but no fever). I have already gained weight just by eating something that make me feel good and not counting calories and it has been only a week. I am going to Thailand for 5 weeks and probably won't be able to prepare my own meals. I am so paranoid over this :scared2:

My doctor will not give me a fill since he said it would be hard for me to find a lap band doctor there in case I need an unfil or something.

I need some advice please.

Thank you so much,

For the most part I have the most wonderful husband in the world. I have been with him for over 23 years and married 18 years. He is generally good to me, supported my choice to get banded, we don't fight, and I am still very much in love with him. In general, I think we are living as close to "happily ever after" as we can get.

BUT .............. I have lost 44 pounds and he has not said a word or made any indication that he sees any difference. He has not asked how much I've lost...... nothing

I'm not really pissed about it, though it does bother me a little. Maybe he doesn't know what to say? Who knows ......

I am going to wait it out and see just how many pounds it takes before he says something.

I've seen posts about nonscale victories, and never thought I'd be sharing a couple of my own.

A little earlier this year, I went with my coworkers to Knotsberry Farm, and was able to get on rides, and I FIT!!!

Today, I was supposed to go for a fill. It turns out I missed a call from my doctor's office; he had an emergency. I was sure I'd gained weight, but according to my scale here at home, I've lost a couple of pounds.

I take a public transit system known here as Access Services, which sometimes uses cabs. My best friend and I rode in back with another woman, and a man rode in front with the driver. Again, I fit! No one was squished, everyone was comfortable!

Anyone care to share their nonscale victories? I'd love to hear them!!

Let's here it for the band!!

I was banded a little over 2 months ago. Since then I've dropped 35lbs (60 since starting the process), but have finally hit a plateau.

This isn't unusual. I've lost large amounts of weight in the past, and have always hit a plateau around this time. The problem, I think, is that 2 months after getting really psyched up about weight loss, the novelty wears off, and old habits begin to re-emerge. This is one of the reasons pasts attempts have failed for me, and one of the reasons I felt I needed help to stay on track.

The problem is that I still don't feel much restriction, even though I've had a fill, and my next fill isn't for another month. For example, yesterday I had a really bad day, and was bad last night, and had a large bowl of cereal for dinner. It was much larger than the 1/2 cup I'm supposed to be limited to, but had no problem whatsoever eating the whole thing.

I'm getting kind of scared that my bad habits are starting to reappear, and will end up sabotaging myself (again).

Any long timers run intot his situation, and how did you get refocused?
