I got my first fill 6 weeks ago. 3cc's. not sure how large my band is, I have the realize band. Everything was ok, I could tolerate pretty much anything. I haven't lost much weight in those 6 weeks, only 5 lbs.

Now, yesterday I got my second fill, an additional 1.5 cc's. I cannot eat ANYthing. I tried to eat a little chicken today and I thought I was going to DIE. For about 20 minutes I thought I really was going to DIE. I kept spitting up, exteme pain, finally I threw up.

Now, 2 hours later I just feel terrible. Really horrible physically. Did I mess up my band by throwing up? Do I need to go back for an unfill?

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm a little freaked out.

I wanted to tell everyone how wonderful my surgeon is. I tried to post this under the surgeons but it didn't give me an option to start a new thread. I was banded on May19th of this year by Dr. Paul Wizman in Margate, FL (Ft. Lauderdale area). Yesterday I went for a fill. He put in 1/2 CC. When I got home, I tried to drink my protein shake but it wasn't going down well. I thought maybe it's just too thick right now...so I had some broth.. fast forward to this morning, and I made my protein shake, but this time no ice, no peanut butter, no blender... just milk and the powder... I got in the car, took two drinks of it... immediately felt stuck.. on a protein shake! I actually had to pull over on the turnpike and throw up... I have NEVER had to do that since I was banded... so when I got to work, I made a big cup of hot tea, thinking that it would help loosen the band... well, it didn't go down great... gurgling w/EVERY sip... so I called and spoke w/his nurse, told her I thought I was too tight.. she asked what's going on... I told her... she told me to stick to light liquids and she would get back to me. She just called and told me that after the support group meetings tonight, that they are gonna meet me over at the office at like 8:45pm and he is gonna take out a little bit...now.. he is in the OR all day and then 3 HRS of support group meetings... and he's STILL gonna take care of me after... I LOVE MY SURGEON!! He's just a great man and surgeon!!

Hello! I'm new to this board and enjoyed reading a lot of the posts. I'm wondering if you'll be able to help me understand what the Lapband Fills are suppose to do. What's the Sweet Spot?

First, I've been banded for over 2 years and have not lost weight.

Post surgery - I followed the strict diet until I healed. When I started to introduce solid foods (chewing till its liquid, etc) I started to purge (PBing) the food. My band was not filled at the time and I was already PBing. Never Never felt Satiated or "FULL".

My understanding prior to getting this lapband - it was suppose to help as a "Tool" to make one feel satiated quickly with a small amount of food. I've been waiting for that! But have been PBing ever since post surgery.

OK, then they started to "fill" my band slowly. Each and everytime it just created PBing effects... and the nurses and those around me would tell me that I needed to chew my food more. Yes, I have and it's been mush going down.

I don't understand... Then each time I went back for an "Unfill" they would talk me into a "Fill" bc I haven't lost any weight. So then we Fill up again and the whole PBing cycle begins again.

I think I lived with this PBing at every meal for about a year before I went back and had them remove ALL of the Saline Fill. At this point I believe I stretched out my pouch bc I'm now able to eat with no saline in the band.

I want to understand - what is the Sweet spot? I've been PBing since day one of solid foods intro after surgery with NO FILL in the band till the time they removed All of the saline in my band.

I'm frustrated to no end! I don't know what the sweet spot is and what it's suppose to feel like. I've spent so much money on this lapband with NO RESULTS and its been extremely hard for me.

Has anyone else gone through this? I get so frustrated at times bc I'm not losing any weight and I'm contemplating getting Gastric bypass at this point.

Please help!!

(No bashing please)

On the other hand, I've lost 6lbs in one week, which is the best so far. When I was at 7cc I could eat a lot more, and barely lost any weight. Should I maybe try 7.5cc?

Now at noon, I took 5 motrin (for my knees) with a gulp of mint herbal tea (hot) and now I keep burping up (and puking up) what I think is motrin and tea. Feels like heartburn and i'm freaking out! Will it stop? Is the motrin stuck??? Am I too tight???
Anyone have some advice or information for me?
Thanks a bunch!!!

Heya, I just had another fill yesterday. I'm now at a total of 5.5mls and I'm feeling rather tight. I was able to do the "water test" and drank the little cup of water with no problems, but have to drink my coffee slowly and I have managed to eat some yoghurt and soup yesterday but it took over an hour as i could only sip it.

My mum has recently had her band taken out as she was filled up to much and started regularly vomiting which cause her band to become infected, so I really am worried that this could happen to me.

Has anyone else felt tight after having a fill put in but it loosened up after a couple of days???

I'm hoping it's feeling a little tighter this time because he had to jab me twice (first time with a smaller needle) second time with a larger, longer needle because my port has sunk in further and was slightly flipped (which he said wasn't a problem, just means he will use the longer needle from now on).

Any thoughts are welcome!!!! :) Thanks :)

I was so excited to finally get my first fill. It was scheduled for 5 weeks after my surgery and I haven't felt any kind of restriction for the last two weeks. Preop went so well, approval was super fast, surgery and recovery were amazingly easy. I get to the surgeon's office and am not feeling well (allergies gone amok) so I'm a bit cranky in addition to being nervous. He asks his normal questions about how much I can eat and tells me that he's going to start with the standard 4cc fill and we can go from there.

Here's where it gets not so fun. He inserts the needle (no issues there) and hits the side part of the port. Moving the needle around gently he tries again, and again, and again. I have no idea how long he did this b/c I was a bit upset that this wasn't going well. Finally he gives up saying that one of the scheduling girls will have to call me when she gets back into the office (she was off that day and the next) with an appointment for the hospital's xray dept to do it under fluro.

I cannot tell you how hard it was for me not to drive straight to the pizza buffet and go back to my old ways. I didn't do it. It was hard but I didn't. I compromized by picking up a shake and mixing it at home with a scoop of protein powder.

This was thursday and I'm supposed to get a call from the scheduling lady tomorrow. He's concerned that the port flipped completely and he's going to have to go back in and fix it. I'm already 61 sick leave hours in the hole from having the surgery. I'm not sure what I'm going to do if they have to go back in to fix this. I'm hoping that it's the other possibility that he said... just some extra tough scar tissue shifting it in a funny angle that he can't account for. Yeah, I'm really hoping for that.

Sorry this is so long. Just needed to vent to the people who really know how this all feels. DH does a good job trying but really doesn't know.

He felt around for the port and inserted the needle. You know when your doc finds the port you hear and feel it "POP" when the needle goes in. Well, he kept jabbing me without hitting the port. Finally he said he had it and drew the saline out.

I had an awful fill experience today and am wondering if this has happened to others.

I'm 6 weeks postop, and went for my first fill today. After several unsuccessful attempts my Dr. decided to do the fill under fluoro (with an x-ray machine.) From what I've read on here fluoro fills are suppose to be great;quick and accurate. This was not the case at all. My Dr. still had trouble, and tried with that awful needled for another 30 minutes. I was actually bleeding from all of the poking and prodding. At one point I had 4 Dr.'s in the room trying to figure it out. My port has shifted and the angle is weird, but I still figured they'd be able to do it.

So they sent me home and told me to come back in a month so we could try again. I'm just really disappointed because I was so looking forward to getting this weight loss going. Most people get their first fill 4-6 weeks postop, I'll have to wait until 10 weeks out. Has anyone else has such an issue with this? I hope I don't come across as whiny, I'm just very frustrated.

I had a .25 fill two weeks ago and now it seems like i have hardly any restriction. Is this possiable? Or maybe i just didn't get enough and it didn't make a difference. Is it possiable that when me gave me my fill when he took all the fluid out of my band and then put it back in plus the fill that band isn't as tight. Has anyone had this happen? I have a appointment in two weeks i am going to ask him and get another fill.

Well, I came down with reflux and had to have most of my fill taken out to relieve it. The week before I had the fill removed, I went into total depression because I thought I was going to start overeating again or just eating too much and gaining.

Well, here's the thing, even if the fill has become reduced, my restriction didn't change a bit. I was at 1.6cc, got reflux, defilled to 1.2cc, still had reflux. Then it was reduced to .8cc.

The reason I got filled to 1.6 in the first place was because when I was at .6cc, I was eating too much and gaining. I was eating like 8 to 9 ounces of food at every meal. Now at .8cc today, I'm eating under 4 ounces, sometimes 3. .2cc can't make that much of a difference, can it?

I wonder if something is wrong with my band. My throat still doesn't feel right. I wonder if the reflux is entirely gone or just greatly reduced. I feel like there is goo building up in the back of my throat. I'm going to try to take some mucinex for that since I think it doesn't have to do with reflux, but something else.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy I didn't lose restriction. But this doesn't make any sense? >>;;

Training Updates!

We have recently had our Cincinnati OH, and Abbeville AL locations open up after successful trainings. Please let your patients know that those locations are past training stages and are accepting regular appointments for gastric band aftercare.

For initial consultations we have reduced the fee for a savings of $150 off our regular Initial consultation fee. For our Follow-up Visit with Band Adjustment we reduce the fee for a savings of $30 off our regular Follow-up with fill fee.

During these tough economic times it may be necessary for your patients to save as much cash as possible, and this could help them receive their much needed post-op care without damaging the pocketbook.

Below you will find the most up to date list of upcoming trainings. Please note that we are in danger of cancelling two trainings due to low patient interest, so if you have patients in these areas, please make sure they are aware of the potential locations and direct them to our toll free number. 866-345-5872.

HELLO

I'm posting this topic again by request,,, These are step by step instructions to do the trip from the airport to the Obesity Control Center on your own. I would say the number one rule is to make sure you have your US PASSPORT or photo ID with a raised seal Birth Certificate! Go to the US State Deprtments web site and read currant rules for travel. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative The second rule is to travel very light, limit yourself to a small duffle bag or gym bag or nothing at all. If you’re carrying a small bag make sure it has a shoulder strap. If you’re staying over night somewhere, still carry a small bag with shoulder strap. Only bring the bare essentials and remember the TSA rule of 3-1-1. When arriving at the San Diego airport, go out the front exit on the street level and walk to the right, go to the #992 bus stop sign. Buses run every 12 minutes or less. Get on the #992 bus and ask the driver for a $5 day pass, this pass will be good all day long and good for both bus and trolley. Tell the bus driver you’re not from here and if he could, call out the American Plaza/Broadway stop, this is where you want to get off the bus and get on the Blueline Trolley. You’ll see the trolley, walk across the street and get on the Blueline Trolley marked San Ysidro/Tijuana. If you have any questions, make sure you ask the bus driver or any Transit policeman/Transit information personal. Ride the Trolley to the border, it will stop several times on the way to the border, but it will end at the border. Get off the Trolley and kind of follow the flow of people and watch where they go, they’ll head for a walkway/ramp type structure. This is the first of two foot bridges that will lead you across the border. After crossing the first foot bridge you’ll come to gate that leads to the Mexican Taxi area, Have $5 in hand and the address of the OCC on a piece of paper,, which is #1510 LEONA VICARIO, ZONA RIO, TIJUANA. The OCC clinic is about 6 blocks away from here. NOTE: make sure you have only $5 in your hand and before you get in the taxi tell them you’re only going to pay $5, otherwise their going to try to get more money out of you. This is the fastest way to do the bus/trolley/Mexican taxi route, figure in about a 2 hour time frame or less from airport to the OCC. So, here’s an example, if your plane arrives in San Diego at 8:00am, you have no checked luggage, just a carry on, come out of the airport, get on bus, switch to trolley, cross the border, take a Taxi to the clinic, you should get there by 10:00am or less. So make your appointment for the fill accordingly. If your spending the night at the Lucerna, you can walk south from the clinic to the Lucerna, it’s about an 8 block walk south along the Ave of the Hero’s. Now, if you don’t want to take the $5 Taxi ride and feel really adventurous, you can walk to the clinic all the way from the second foot bridge. After getting off the first foot bridge, do not go thru the gate that takes you to the taxi stand, instead, go to the right, you can just watch where the people go and follow the flow and go to the second foot bridge. After crossing the second foot bridge you’ll end up at the beginning of Revolution Ave by the big Arch. Go straight thru the beginning of the shops and walk a couple blocks to a main street and then turn left, walk about 4 or 6 blocks till you come to a new Costco. Then turn right and head South about 4 or 6 blocks till you come to LEONA VICARIO Street, turn left and the clinics in the middle of that block. Note: If you’re a woman or by yourself, I wouldn’t recommend this way. The easiest/safest way is to take a taxi after the first foot bridge. When leaving and going back to the USA, just reverse these directions. Note: It depends on which day of the week and time of the day you’re leaving to how congested customs gets. The OCC will call you a taxi or if you’re staying at the Lucerna there’s a Taxi stand there. The Taxi will take you back to the border Taxi stand. You will still have to walk across a foot bridge which takes you over the 10 lanes of cars in line to leave Mexico. From there you will have to get in line with everyone else and go with the flow to the US customs building. You will need your US PASSPORT or photo ID with Birth Certificate to go thru customs. Once thru customs walk out of the building and the Trolley will be right in front of you. Go back to the airport from here, reversing the instructions which brought you to the OCC. Count on a worst case scenario of taking at least 2 hours of standing in line getting thru customs. Note: If your doing your fill trip all in one day, make sure you test your fill before you leave TJ. You never know, you may need to hit the clinic again for an unfill. Also, make sure you leave with plenty of time to make it back to the airport in time for your flight.

Hmmmmm, so hard to tell! If you haven't got a temp and you feel ok other than your sliming, then possibly it is band related and not a virus.
Would it be reflux? Try sleeping up on a few pillows tonight. Also put the heat pack between your breats, maybe sip a nice warm drink like a hot choclate or something smooth. Maybe your insides are a bit red, sore and sorry and this will calm them a little. I find Nurofen is good to help with inflamation.
Stick to mushies, nice wet ones, maybe even homemade soup to keep your strength up.
If it doesn't pass in 2 days go to the doctor for sure, and of course go to the doctor now if you are really concerned.
Take a swig of Mylanta too, that will help settle things hopefully.
