Well friends, yesterday was my 2 year bandaversary. It's still hard to beleive. while I haven't reached goal. I have lost about 70% of my weight. I had a couple set backs, and had to start over again at one point, but I never gave up. It's been the VERY BEST thing I've ever done just for me. I'm off almost all the medications I was taking. I'm active again. Have my self esteem back. My marriage is good. I have energy. I enjoy shoppiing again. It's all been good. My best advice? Don't ever give up. I'm delighted to have made it this far.

Some may find this beneficial... I attended a monthly support meeting/dinner hosted by my Dr last night. This was a very nice affair w/cooking demonstration by the general practioner in his ofice - the food he prepared was both delicious and healthy.

The benefit... I spoke with both my Dr and the Dietician - bascially complaining (in a nice way) that I hadn't lost an ounce w/n the past 3 weeks. I recently had a fill (last Tuesday), I'm at 6.2ml(cc's) and don't have any restriction. So, I informed my Doc that instead of returning in 8 wks (his normal schedule), I would see him in 4-6 wks. He didn't argue, just said I'll see you then.

Then I spoke with the dietician at length about not feeling restriction and the holding patern I'm currently in. Her suggestion to me was to chew normally, don't chew until the food is mush/liquid... she went on to explain that chewing my food normally would make certain that the food stayed w/n the bad and guarantee that I feel full. She said that chewing as we're all told aids the food in slipping through the pouch and into the stomach - the same premise as slidder foods. This is the first day that I've tried this and so far so good.

I actually feel full (not stuck) and very comfortable. I was also told to increase my water intake (which I know is one of my problems) I didn't think of it before, but as the dietician explained that we really need to drink water to help flush the protein through our system.

I'm sure that many of you know all this already; for the few of you like me who didn't - I hope you find this beneficial.

Luckily, I brought yummy lunch (salsa chicken and some green beans--left over from last night). Pizza is like my favorite thing ever (and not saying I'll never have it again), but I think it would be bad to try it now, as I'm still on soft and I have been STALLED for 2 weeks with the weight loss!!
Anyway, needed to vent. I miss pizza!!!

I'm just curious as to what other people were told.

Hi my wonderful support! Just to refresh....surgery on 11/12, problem getting liquids down, dehydrated, vomiting 1X, and nausea.
I saw the surgeon this morning. I was down 13lbs from last Thursday and he was concerned. After talking and really listening to me, he thought what might be happening is that I had a gas bubble stuck in my band!
He goes to my port and sure enough......1/2cc of saline AND 1cc of air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Almost instant relief when it was removed. The nurse brought me a cup of water and i had more drank in 5 minutes than I was able to get down all morning long! I AM SOOOOO HAPPY!
He also sent me for bloodwork to see how low my electrolytes were and if he needed to admit me back into hospital for dehydration. I am confident now, that won't be necessary. Thank you all for youe suggestions and support

At my last support group, my PA showed me a rubber replica of a band that was at approximately 80% restriction. It was amazing to see how small the little hole was for the food to go through! I could just get the tip of my pinkie finger into it.

Take a second to look down at the top of your pinkie (or, men, look at an average woman's pinkie finger) and see how small the circumference is. That is how much room there is for food to pass through your top pouch to your bottom stomach. No wonder food gets stuck so easily!!

And the height of the band was probably just shy of an inch long, so that means the whole stoma is this very tiny narrow tube that can so easily get plugged up with a bite or two of chicken and other problem foods.

It was very enlightening... more so than just seeing a band wrapped around a stomach, like the doc showed me before I had surgery.

Made me realize that I need to cut my food even smaller and chew even more!

Last month I was supposed to go from 8cc-9cc in my band. There were problems and I went home with only 6cc in my band. I had a fill on Tuesday and I convinced them to put me up to 9cc. When I drink fluids, I feel them sit in my pouch and then go down after few seconds. I also feel little bubbles in my puch as the liquid goes down. I'm kind of worried about moving on to solids. I haven't been impressed with my band, so far. I am only 20 lbs down since surgery and have been gaining and losing the same 5 lbs. I also can't believe the difference between 8cc and 9cc in my band. You wouldn't think 1 cc would make that much difference. I am just so desperate to get to my sweet spot and get this band working.

Hi!
So to be perfectly honest, I've lurked on this forum a little when I've been unable to work out what the hell is going on with my band at a couple of stages, but never registered until now. There's loads of useful info on here, it's great!
Anyway, come December I'll have been banded 3 years, and despite amazingly supportive family and friends, its a little different talking to people who actually went through it as well, I think, so here I am. Trying to get back to my goal weight for the second time (first time was slightly overfilled, got heartburn and had a deflation, then put on weight again, go figure). :)

I don't think it was really overeating, I think it was what I ate.
I had a fill of 2 cc (total of 4 now) last Thursday but I am still starving. I have been able to eat whatever I want but have tried to watch. I had some salsa and tostitos last night without a problem
Tonight I had fish with orange ginger marinade (Aldi's $.98 for a single serving) and some canned peas (my favorite veggetable). The pea skins were kind of crunchy, not soft like the kind I usually buy.
I had almost finished the fish and took a forkful of the peas. On the 2nd forkful the pain began. I was able to drink some water without a problem so I am not sure if it was stuck or what.
I started to sweat. Took a walk which usually helps if I swallow something I haven't chewed right and it seemed to get worse. Tried to lie down and it got even worse.
Chewed 2 papaya enzyme tabs and began burping. After about 1 hour I felt better but I was exhausted. I fell asleep for almost 2 hours and now feel better.
I don't want to ever feel that pain again, the gas pain was bad but this was 100% worse.
