so so sad

Posted 05-31-2008 at 12:31 PM by mandyjo
I guess things are going well because I haven't felt like I need to blog. but today is a day I have feared for a long time. It doesn't have anything to do with the Lap Band but I feel safe talked here. I have worked side by side with my dad for the last 8 years. I bought his barber shop from him 3 years ago when his health really started failing. He has heart disease, diabetes, no kidney funtion, and I could go on and on. The fact he is still alive is amazing. He is my hero and he is dying before my eyes. His work has been his entire life(other then us). He decided on thursday he can not longer work. I and everyone that knew him knew that he should have quit a long time ago. but he said it would kill him to stop. So today was his last day to work. Now this may sound like a little thing to most people. but a major piece of him just died in front of me today.

I am so sad and upset. I know I just need to pull it together but I also needed to cry. I knew it I wrote about it I would cry. So yes I am currently dripping. My heart is breaking for him and myself. Oh shit.

I am tired and sad, and going home now.

awww... I feel for you. I know a lot of men who've worked all their lives have a hard time giving it up because they feel it's their jobs to always be the provider. I would recommend helping him find other types of work. Just don't let him go home sit on a couch and wait to die. Tell him to use this time to do the things he's always wanted.

I can understand how your feel... it is so difficult to watch a parent prepare to leave this world. My mom has had a degenerative neurological condition for awhile, and each episode she has we think it's going to be our last time with her. How lucky we are that she pushes on and we can relish each moment with her. Someday when she does pass away from this earth, it's comforting to me to know that her pain has ended and that this earth life is just a blip in time. I belief I will see her again.

Good luck. And it's okay to cry! :)

I empathize with you. It can be rough, my only advice...celebrate the life he lived and all that he has done to impact your life, continue this practice for all the days to come! It's hard I know! He sounds like a great man you are lucky to of had him in your life for so long!
