starting out
Just wait......
I know every long trip starts with the first step. but move your sights alittle further down the road. I know you have just been through the stress and trauma of surgery Your trying to get by on liquid (and not much of that) . And the payoff for all you have been through is weight loss. You need to see those pounds come off . And after all you have been through ...by gosh they better be flying off ! I know it's wornout banter, but the pounds didn't come on overnite and they aren't going overnite. Try your best to look alittle further down the road. See yourself in a year. Eating solid foods. Knowing what to eat and how much. looking great and feeling even better...it'll happen Kiddo...just settle in and enjoy the ride!Posted 09-23-2008 at 01:04 PM by TEJAS-RATTLER

I stay hungry, however I am still loosing weight so that is a plus. I go back Oct. 15th hopefully she can try and give me another fill. Wish me luck! Continue doing what you are doing..that was a wonderful report.Posted 09-23-2008 at 10:31 AM by lov2seay

Day One
You are beautiful Bimbabe!! But I understand what you are saying, when you don't feel good about yourself it doesn't matter what anyone else says, you simply cannot believe it! The loose skin worries me too and also hairloss as I hear it's quite common after weightloss surgery. Katie xPosted 09-22-2008 at 03:48 PM by katieo

first blog
Tomorrow will be my 3 week anniversay and I've only lost 7 pounds. I'm disappointed too. I was told to be on an all liquid diet for 4-6 weeks after surgery but I couldn't last that long I only lasted about 1 1/2 weeks on only liquids. I think if I would've stayed strict on broth and water I would have lost more, but it was so hard. I had my 1st band filled at 2 weeks and go every week for the next 3 weeks for more adjustments. Maybe you need a fill. I am able to tell I feel full sooner after 1st fill.Posted 09-22-2008 at 02:52 PM by jilliandawn

Do I really want this?
Hi CyndyG:
The number #1 decision maker for me was that I was going to be healthier. I was taking alot of medications and now I am off all of them. You have young children and grandchildren. You want to be around and able to have just as much energy as the kids and enjoy them. Your life will change for the better. I feel so good, I can't even explain it.
Do you have support groups in your area? If so, go to the meetings and get the information you need. I wish you the best! When is your date?Posted 09-22-2008 at 02:33 PM by lov2seay

Day One
When is your surgery scheduled? Mine will be in October if I passed my cardiac testing. I should find out today. I was trying to start my diet early so when I do see the surgeon he may do mine earlier. What exactly are you eating on your diet?

I understand
Hello!
I know how you feel. My husband is supportive, but he married me heavy and he likes F.A.T. (fabulous and thick) women. I just wonder how is going to react when the weight starts coming off??!!
I am doing this for health reasons, looking better is a secondary goal. I don't want to develop diabetes, hypertension and all the other stuff that goes along with long-standing obesity!
P.S. You have our support here on LBT!

Starting Tomorrow
Sounds like a good plan!! I haven't had a band put in myself YET but I read on my prospective surgeons website that you need to eat low fat before op otherwise the liver will be too fatty, there are people on here who's surgeons couldn't carry out the procedure because of a fatty liver, can you imagine that? Getting yourself ready for the big day, going under expecting to come out banded, only to learn you have to go through it all over again!! I think it's great to get the whole family on board, don't think I would feel right eating a very healthy diet and feeding my hubby and kids junk! Have you got a date set? xxPosted 09-22-2008 at 06:15 AM by katieo

Starting Tomorrow
Just think how much better you'll feel!!!! (so hubby is LETTING you "make" him? what a guy!)
I'm going to self-impose a diet myself soon too. One of my goals is to either eliminate caffeine or greatly reduce how much I take in.Posted 09-22-2008 at 05:45 AM by annecolorgreen

Starting Tomorrow
I have been trying to do this as well. I am still waiting for insurance approval, but I am trying the preop diet just to see if I can do the liquid diet and also I figure to lose some weight as well. I did good all last week monday thru friday and then over the weekend it was a little rough. But tomorrow is monday and I am back to the preop diet again.Posted 09-21-2008 at 08:35 PM by Lopez1978

First Trip with Fill
band fills in USA
Amaltha,
I also had my band "installed" by Dr. Corvala. I live on the east coast and cannot afford to fly back and forth to Mexico for my fills. I called "Fill Centers USA" and they found a doctor near me (three hours away), that will do my fills. I really like him and am glad that I found someone closer to home! They have a website if you want to check them out. Good luck!Posted 09-21-2008 at 04:27 PM by tarheelladybug

GG'S Lapband Journey June 2008
Hi there, my name is Lesley, I am starting my journey in the hope that I may get lap band surgery on the NHS. I have just turned 44 and have been a large girl for as long as I can remember, more so in the last 11 years after being diaganosed with clinical depression, in that time, my weight zoomed from 13st to 21-22 stone and I cant do a thing about it. I have tried Orlistat medication through my g.p. I swim frequently, but the weight gain has left me with intollirible lower back pain and crippling leg aches, I have a history of diabetes and heart attacks in my family, so my concern is that I need to get the weight off before I fall victim to the same.
In around four weeks I am to go and meet Mr Woodcock at North Tyneside General Hospital (Rake Lane) of whom I have been referred to, if ANYONE PLEASE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON THE PROCEEDURE AT THIS HOSPITAL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I guess like everyone else, I just want to know if I will be funded and how long the wait will be, many thanks.Posted 09-21-2008 at 03:14 PM by Lesley Ann

no snack...are you kidding me?
Kat-I agree completely! As I have restocked the freezer it sure looks alot different in there. Thanks for mentioning jerky...I forgot about that :)Posted 09-21-2008 at 02:37 PM by TracyK

no snack...are you kidding me?
Tracy, I really think the new way of thinking is key. I am not saying I did it all the right way--because of course we both know I did not!!! But I truly tried to live each day of being banded in the way I want to live the rest of my life. Not being deprived, but also not wanting to be down on myself for what or how I ate.
I allow myself evening snacks, or daytime snacks, I just really try to concentrate on the health value of the snack as opposed to just the calorie content. Like there might be more calories in a wedge of cheese and a couple of crackers, than there is an a 100 calorie pack of cookies-----but my body gets nutrition from the cheese that it doesn't from the cookies, and the cheese keeps the munchies at bay far longer than the cookies do.
You CAN do this--------the quitting smoking is the biggie-----you have done such a wonderful thing for both your health and that of your little one. And while you did gain weight back, you are not back where you started with the additional quit smoking weight! That is one BIG accomplishment!!!!
Think health----and as you restock the fridge and cupboard----keep easy snacking in mind, stock some almonds, and jerky, things you can snack on without guilt, and also get nutrition from. Then let go of the guilt related to snacking! That my friend is my opinion!!!
