I've been wanting to start a blog to both remember the specifics of my journey and also to share the experience with others considering a gastric band.

Today I'm one week out from having a Realize Band surgically implanted. I feel great. 12 pounds are gone! I only had one day of pre-op dieting and had a few too many last suppers before surgery, so much of this weight is relatively new. Anything I lose from here on out will be older weight and losing that will make me VERY HAPPY.

Surgery itself was not bad at all except that I did get sick from the anesthesia . That lasted 28 hours. BUT after it totally wore off, I started feeling much much better. The pain at the incision sites is minimal and there is some tenderness around the port but not a big deal. My belly area is still a but puffy from the surgery but slowly returning to normal.

I am experiencing the "head hunger" that many people have described to me. I'm just so used to cooking, shopping, watching food TV, being in the kitchen and having hand-to-mouth activity frequently throughout the day. I'm finding that I don't know what to do with myself. I've been eating a lot of sugar free popsicles and pacing a lot.

When I eat too fast I get hiccups. They are uncomfortable.

My left shoulder hurt BAD on days 2-4, not so bad yesterday and today.

BMs came back at day 3.

Steri-strips are still on but I will probably lose two tomorrow in the shower as the have almost peeled off.

To avoid the kitchen, I've taken time to reorganize my closet and dresser drawers and to get my nails and hair done. I've also walked every day for well over an hour, either indoors or out. Looking forward to getting into an exercise routine.

I have my first check up with my surgeon on May 6th. I am hoping to have lost 20 pounds by then.

I'm ready for the new me!
