I am a state employee, and my wife works for the City of Little Rock. I went to Mexico for LAP-BAND® surgery and paid for it using our flexible spending accounts. I contributed $4000 to my FSA; my wife contributed $5000 to her FSA. The surgery cost was $8500. Certainly not as good as having insurance cover it, but the money I spent was tax free.
